EK Announcement On Friday

Wed Sep 29, 2004 1:33 am

I have just finished a lengthy meeting with my EK sales rep this is what I have news wise!

5 more schedules to be added to the u.k / Ireland by nov05

BHX double daily is almost definitely to be announced on Friday then we will go back to the A330 in march (subject to confirmation on x2 service)

EDI WILL commence by summer05! This is a definite! But no double daily yet for GLA

MAN will go to three per day from summer schedule 05

DUB will be announced for start next summer, this has been brought forward by almost 2 years!

SYD is going double daily and it is likely to be via SIN not CMB or direct! As some have mentioned

China is being looked into for both CAN & PEK, PEK is high on the list!

One interesting subject that was brought up is NCL ........ Its being looked into! As we speak! So watch this space, don't expect anything this year but maybe end of next year!

More great news for long haul flights from Scotland. Is there any chance of an aircraft upgrade at GLA instead of double daily?

Good Luck to EK...they'll need it now that they have $27B in long term assets to secure.

Wonderful news! We had expected this since earlier this week (i.e. yesterday!) after it was announced that Emirates had held talks with Aer Rianta.

However, as the ever patient Emirates777 (and Behramjee) will testify, I was waiting for this news for just a little longer that this.

I'm going to conclude with a "yipp" and leave the "ee!" until Friday!

And the alternative MAN news suggests that the 3rd daily is not due for a while and that 777s are likely to be used on the 1st service.

Very interesting indeed these developments of EK.

CAN will be a cargo minting machine route for them especially...it would be advisable to fly to CAN via BKK or DEL 3 times a week using A 332s...highly unlikely they would get rights for DEL-CAN. They shouldnt fly the route nonstop as there isnt that much demand for nonstop CAN flights. CZ flies PEK-CAN-DXB with B 777s twice a week.

EDI...why? GLA is understandable because of the big Arab-IndoPak population there plus GLA is an industrial centre but EDI !!!

PEK should be nonstop with A 332s or A 343s from DXB...most likely to start with 4 weekly and then become daily.

If SYD is going via SIN then I bet the B 773 will be used for this flight. And will this 2nd daily SYD flight contine on to AKL or CHC or terminate in SYD?

Im really surprised that SEOUL has not been considered for all these years !!!

I didn't think EK would start up at EDI with GLA being in such a close proximity. Looks like it will be good news for NCL next year with a bit of lick. You wouldn't believe the amount of pax from the North-East that fly to DXB.

EDI...why? GLA is understandable because of the big Arab-IndoPak population there plus GLA is an industrial centre but EDI !!!

They will have virtually no competition and many will see it as the most convenient way to get the the Far East from EDI, in the same way that CO is the most convenient way to get to the US, which is why the route is a runway success. Plus it is a major business and tourist centre in Europe, second in both respects only to London( obviously) in the UK.
No matter what any of us say, I'm sure EK know best and will make the right decisions.

If Ek do go ahead with the 2nd daily flight via SIN, maybe this will enable SriLankan to operate their own flights to SYD.

I wish i had a rich arab government to allow me to subserdise my costs so i could undercut all the world carriers, oh yes then i'd recruit a shed load of cabin crew from all over the world and give them houses in a stupidly hot climate and allow them to run a muck in my city!

Still it is nice to see there aircraft around i suppose. I can't wait for all the other carriers to start flying from nowhere as well.

Hate EK, the end.....

AKL already has EK servide to/from SYD so CHC could get the extra service if the aircraft has around 10 hours intill it flys back to DXB.

Macdaddy,

Very ignorant remarks, and no need to be hateful or jaleous of Dubai's capacity to invest in its future and home airline.

Emirates may receive subsidies in the form of fee waivers, but that does not make it fully state-backed. It is very competitive and transparent in their finances.

In any case, their aircraft are full and they are bagging more awards and as far as I am concerned, they are doing one hell of a good job in establishing Emirates as a global, 21st century, airline.

Time will show that they are on their way to become Asia's largest, profitable airline. Just read about the pace of construction, planning and tourism/trade growth in dazzling Dubai.

Enough said.

If there is a will, there is a way

Well eurostarVA, interesting words. If there was a bottomless pit of money for me to spend i'd certainly be making sure my finances were transparent.

Lets see how many companys come under the Emirates heading.... shedloads. If I was the only caterer, fueling company, handling agent (DNATA - nuff said), and airport provider in DXB then i too would make a load of money. As for the crew, if i could get gov't grants to build huge appt blocks and house them i would, becuase it would cost nothing to me as an airline becuase it was a different offshoot of the EK umbrella of companys. Then pay the crew wages below industry standard and work there butts off because there are no union rules, but all the time throw a lavish lifestyle for them in their appartment! Its all a bit dodgy to be fair.....

lastly remember that bodge job on the 340-300 in JNB, well as a foot note there is no longer a Weight and balance manager for EK so get a CV in soon, looks like he was the fall guy! As for the crew not being trained on their aircraft correctly well thats a different thread.....

Just incase you wonder where i get this info from my saudi friend, its all about who you know!

I no that they are getting nearly full PAX on their MAN-DXB routes.  Smile Big grin

That is great news that EK is expanding its services to all corners of the world. This will be great for commerce between the world and UAE.

Although I am quite surprised to see that JFK is the only destination served by EK in the US, however it would be interesting to see EK serve to potential high traffic cities in the US such as Chicago, San Fransico, Houston and Washington.

I have heard rumours about San Fransico being a possible site, but nothing concrete yet.

Anyone have anything to fill in?

And btw. the Airbus A330 in 3-class-config. has got nearly the same number of seats! so I am confused- anyone who could help me??  Confused  Confused

Going a bit OT here..I could never understand why Air Malta
never introduced a scheduled service from EDI.

Thomsons had a summer-long charter a few years back -
flown by Air Malta - it was always full.

I have never been back to Malta since it was withdrawn.

If you wanted to go back to Malta that much then why not use GLA? or MAN? or any other airport!!!!

back ON topic:

EK will be looking to emulate CO at EDI, well done to BAA for offering EK the right incentives. Anyone know if it will be a daily service?

If EK come to EDI it would be a new route, and would therefore benefit from funding from the Scottish Executives route development fund. Adding additional frequencies to GLA would not attract funding.

" I also heard that EK are starting a Perth to Auckland service later on in the near future. "

No chance! the current tasman flights aren't making a buck, so i dont think it would happen ex-PER.
furthermore, EK does this from SYD/BNE/MEL, cos the aircraft sit on the ground for 18 hrs plus.

my guess is that a second services ex- DXB would operate
etd DXB 10.00, eta PER 0100
etd PER 08.00, eta DXB 1500

this would work for EK's Europe-DXB huubbing time on 0800-1000, and for its 1600-1800 departures DXB-UK.

I'm sure they would love some taxpayers cash.

That must be balanced against the costs of setting up another station, the lack of facilities for their a/c at EDI, and not getting the connecting flight to SYD in place from GLA. (and the fact that GLA is operating over 80%)

I thought the free limo service for 100 miles was for the east coast pax. Time will tell I suppose.

The thread does look like a sad wind up though, shame just about everyone fell for it.

have to fund their own surface transport to GLA.

I am not going to reply to the above poster. He is intent on stirring trouble between the good people of Edinburgh and Glasgow.

His attacks on mixed race people, single mothers, Glaswegians and anyone else he dislikes can be found here.

Do a search for FOX1 or Joe Curry and you will find his vile, offensive racist remarks.

I hope people will let this matter close, I do not intend to cause conflict here. I just wish to let people see what fox1's agenda really is.

I hope we can stick to aviation.
