Question About US And Chapter 7

Wed Sep 29, 2004 11:17 am

My grandma booked me a ticket to fly out to ohio for my winter break. I was wondering what would happen if they went into chap. 7? She booked the ticket on United.com but they put me on a codeshare flight. Would UA transfer me to one of their flights because I booked through them? Thanks in advance.

First off, when is your winter break? If it's before February, you will probably be okay. If it is after February, and US files for Chapter 7 (which seems more and more likely by the day), UA will most likely protect you on other flights.

What's your itinerary? If it's something that UA flies with their own metal, they will, almost guaranteed, put you on their own flights. UA may not be in the greatest financial situation, but they aren't going anywhere at the moment.

So then UA could provide service on their own metal from PHX-IAD and then IAD-CMH, right? Or PHX-ORD and ORD-CMH?

Yes, they could. So if they did go under they would just transfer me over to one of those?

If US goes under then UAL would pick up a boat load of US passengers, you'd even see AA and the other legacy carriers filling their planes with US folks.

By law, all carriers have to honor the USAir tickets on a standby basis. At peak times like Christmas break could be tough. USAir says they have until Feb, but I think Nov 3 is a very very important date.
