EWR Questions

Wed Sep 29, 2004 7:24 pm

Hi everybody!

I'll be changing planes in EWR this Saturday, will be coming from an int'l CO flight from BRU, connecting to MIA. Will I have to change terminals?

Second question: are there smoking areas airside?  Innocent

And what about the food facilities in the terminals?

Thanks for any info!

Regards,
Peter

You may have to change terminals, but it's a real breeze: there's a monorail that links all the terminals and it only takes a couple of minutes.

Smoking is only allowed in the bars.

There's a very wide choice of food options in the terminals.

I can only really answer one of those... Yes, there are plenty of food facilities in the terminals, including a Brooklyn Brewery. There is a food court with your standard airside eateries.

I don't recall seeing any smoking vestibles, like they have in St. Louis, but then again, I was not looking for them. Since you will have to clear customs and immigration anyways, the exit to the outside is no more than 100 ft from getting out of customs, from there just pop outside, light up, then head back in. It is really easy, even if you have to change terminals, but remember to catch the inter-terminal train, go upstairs.
Keep on truckin'...

If you are connecting CO to CO, then you should stay within Term C. Only CO flights to/from ORD,DFW,ATL are normally elsewhere.

I think if you're flying CO all the way through you'll stay within Terminal C (I know some CO flights leave from Terminal A but don't think MIA is one of them?) You will still have to collect your bags, clear customs, drop them off again then clear security so it doesn't matter either way, it'll probably just take you 5 minutes longer if you have to change. Immigration at TC is very quick though in my experience which is why EWR is my airport of choice as there is less chance of missing your connection die to long queues.

As for smoking I can happily  Big grin say there are no smoking areas airside within the airport. You will have to go outside once you have cleared customs and get your fix there.

Food facilities in Terminal C are very good and much better than a lot of other US airports.

Enjoy your trip.

I believe you would be flying into Terminal B which is where they have Customs and flying out of Terminal C. That was my experience going HKG-EWR-FLL.

A new FIS opened in C a few years ago. Almost all (if not all) CO international arrivals now come in to concourse C3 (gates 120<).

ManchesterMAN,

you're right, all CO flights are in and out of Terminal C except Atlanta, Dallas and Chicago.

EWR is my airport of choice too...

cheers

If you are flying to MIA on CO then you won't technically have to change terminals, but you might have to change concourses. Of course the only hassle here is a bit of a walk, don't have to go back through security, and customs is located in the terminal

All CO international flights arrive at Terminal C, CO's main terminal. Your connection will be within the same terminal, smoking is permitted outside only.

Terminal has excellent assortment of shops and restaraunts, just walk around and pick up a concessions guide. The C-1 and C-3 concourses offer the best choices, if you want an authentic New Jersey Diner they have one in the C-1 concourse.

There's even a letter penned by President H.W. Bush commented on how much he enjoyed their omlettes, hanging in the window of the diner.

Quick question not worth creating a new thread:

Do flights to MDW use Terminal A or Terminal C?

>don't have to go back through security<

You do have to go back through security after exiting customs and dropping your bags at the baggage recheck line (which can be quite slow, BTW).

IMO going through immigration at EWR is a breeze (I've gone through it a few times, and it's never been more than ten minutes; maybe just a coincidence).

It is certainly a lot better than going through immigration at IAH during peak times, which has become an absolute h*ll.
