Canadian Leaving Oneworld

Sat Mar 04, 2000 2:07 am

Below is an excerpt from an article in today's National Post as announced by Paul Brotto, new CEO of Canadian.

Canadian will cease to be a member of the Oneworld alliance on
June 1 and it will join Air Canada's Star Alliance.

Travellers will still be able to redeem Canadian frequent flyer points
on Oneworld members planes for another year and with American
Airlines for longer. With the exception of American, however,
travellers won't be able to earn points on Oneworld flights for use
on Canadian or Air Canada.

That was fast, don't you agree?

I had a feeling this would happen with OneWorld and Star Alliance arch-rivals. Also, I don't think either alliance would want half of one of its airlines belonging to the rival.

Well, at least Canadian wasn't put into the Delta-Air France Alliance!! But won't getting from YVR to SYD be a problem??(Qantas is a oneworld member)

Getting to SYD is no problem at all, now that CP is going to return to flying into there. It will fly 767-300ER's YYZ-HNL-SYD, and will connect with YVR-HNL for western passengers to continue on to SYD, starting in April, I believe.

CP is still possibly going to codeshare with DL, it's not decided yet. Check their restructuring FAQ's.
