...If they are still around in June 2005 !

It's a bit sad to see all those marvelous expansion plans for a "bloodless" airline in a total coma...

From the 2nd December 2004:

MXP-PVG
1--4-6- AZ0796 15.30->10.00+ 767-300ER
PVG-MXP
-2--5-7 AZ0797 12.40->18.35+ 767-300ER

It is great news for all west-coast-italo-americans that Alitalia is going back to LAX, and this time it's with the Magnificent Sevens!  Big thumbs up

Hello guys!

I do not understand one point: a few days ago AZ CEO said any of AZ international flights are profitable, right?

So, why are they starting (or restarting) new ones???

Simple... All commercial logic needs to be left at the door when discussing AZ.

Alitalia act like a state funded central african carrier who operate routes for the prestige, not the profits! Just like dozens of European carriers in the 80's. Unfortunatly thats illegal in the Europe of the 00'ies.

You are 100 times more likely to catch a cold on a flight than an average person!

Yep Best, you are right.

Unfortunately civil aviation is full of megalomaniac people.

In Brazil we have many examples of this too. See Transbrasil, VASP and Varig.

The first one is a defunct, the second is in its way to the same direction and Varig is not that good as everyone knows....

But AZ can be even better in doing crazy things!!!

I don't understand this...an airline in Alitalia's financial state should be working on adding new routes and taking on additional risk.

That said, I really do hope Alitalia does well and becomes prosperous.

My first AZ flight was LAX-MXP-ATH back in the late 1980's...747 and DC-9.

Got to go in the cockpit of the 747 during flight and the crew let me play around with some buttons. Good times.

Also flew on them this summer GVA-FCO-IST-FCO-GVA and enjoyed the flights.

Hope AZ does well, but as I said before I can't see this as being a fantastic move.

If they do go through with it, I will go to LAX myself to welcome the AZ 772 on the first flight.
PARIS, FRANCE...THE BEIRUT OF EUROPE.

AZ has clearly stated that the future is in international markets.. and this is why they are expanding as such.

International travel is blossoming, AZ/LX are just some of the few that want to jump ship. High fares, high yields, and heavy govt regulation.
