Coex To Offer DFW-GUC

Sat Oct 02, 2004 6:46 am

Continental Express will be offering Dallas-Gunnison, CO service on an ERJ from December to March.

I know it's not a significant route in the scheme of things but it's the second non-hub snow route being offered by Continental in the future, which I find to be an interesting trend.

I was also curious to know if CO received some sort of incentive to offer this DFW route in addition to daily IAH service on 737-700s.

Does AA plan on offering DFW-GUC? If AA doesn't plan on it, DFW may have stepped in and offered Continental incentives, other than that-- why?

Let's face it, GUC is a tiny, tourist related market nowhere close to DEN(former CO hub) and Continental's hub is 250 miles south of DFW at IAH. Not to mention they are entering AA's turf. I mean this isn't CO flying DFW-LAX or DFW-LGA, where marginal profits can be made.

Do the ERJ's have cargo holds big enough to carry skis?

yeah they can handle it........but if you get 50 skis thats where you get a problem...hopefully many of them will rent when they get there!!

I really don't think this is too surprising considering these factors

1) Texans love to ski in Colorado (although folks in Colorado aren't too fond of Texans) and Crested Butte is one of the most popular destinations for Texans

2) A Delta Connection carrier opened this route (DFW-GUC) on an erj last year

3) AA hasn't offered service to GUC in the past

Looks to me that this is part of the synergy between CO and DL at play.

since AA pulled out people in DFW have been howling ever since for service..so that is the reason for the addition!!!

This flight will coincide with CLE..............routing CLE-DFW-GUC-DFW-CLE

as for the LAX-MTJ tag-on look for AGU to be the city!!!

HAHAHAHA
Good Luck to CoEx with DFW-GUC
It was a bitch of a route for us last year (Delta Connection DFW-GUC).

Chqdispatch,

Just out of curiosity, would you care to explain what made this run such a nightmare for DL Connection.

Let's just say that the landing minimums and weight restrictions weren't very helpful. And have you ever seen an ERJ carry ski's and skiing equipment? A lot of flights going back to DFW had huge weight restrictions because of the length of the GUC runway and if we needed hold fuel and alternate fuel, forget it. It did make for some very interesting dispatching and flying.
