Sat Oct 02, 2004 3:05 pm

Today Jetblue started its new service to phoenix. How will Jetblue do in phoenix? I don't know that much on the Jetblue so I was wondering will Jetblue do real good here in the valley of the sun>

JetBlue in PHX could go a number of different ways
On the negative side, they'll have stiff competition from other LCC's (HP and WN) to NYC. However, they do have their IFE which makes for an enticing product from an LCC.
Either way it's nice to see a new airline in town
From a spotter's perspective it's too bad it's a redeye, but hey, if its successful, an increased frequency is definitely possible

Well, that explains why Neelman didn't fly with us to LGA yesterday!

Seriously, though, I agree that PHX can go a number of different ways...It could end up like Atlanta was, which is my biggest fear. In Atlanta, they hoped that the IFE would help, but it was a saturated market that some other unnamed airlines who were already competeing on dropped fares and added flights! so, bottom line, we'll see.
NEXT FLIGHT: FLL-ATL-HPN on FL

I think they will do fine and most likely increase flights as the demand grows.

Just an FYI - it is spelled Neeleman, not Neelman

Flairport...let's be real here...they went into Atlanta with, what, two flights per day, and neither to their headquarters city of New York...there are plenty of people in the New York City area who will fly jetBlue regardless of price and schedule, provided they fly to the airport...but nobody is going to fly JFK-LGB-ATL, and jetBlue isn't going to sell that ticket anyway...not to say that if jetBlue had run JFK-ATL flights they would have been successful, but at the very least, it would have had a better chance (although ATL-LGA is Delta's #1-travelled O&D route, and it goes without saying that Delta would have struck back by increasing capacity and dropping fares on ATL-JFK, although frequency can't realistically go up much, with ATL-JFK being flown 9 times a day by Delta at the time, and ATL-LGA being hourly flights at the time, some of them with widebodies)
