MAH4546, thanks for that info! I always enjoy reading your posts and know the info you provide is always correct. Isn't this like the 20th time AA has opened/closed Sioux Falls? LOL.

No surprise on the BOS-ISP route being cut. ISP was only served from BOS; it never had ORD service (at least recently, I think AA did have M80 service to ORD at one time).

Who wants to connect in ORD from FSD? They can get mainline to MSP and connect in a wonderful terminal! Smile

Well, well!! Looks like Southwest has succesfully booted AA out of ISP!! I certainly did not see that one coming. This looks like that old cliché "You may have won the battle, but you won't win the war".

Incidentally, AA did have MD-80 service to ORD at one time. The also had service to Florida (back when Carnival Airlines existed).

Interesting development indeed.

Will AA be opening up any new cities with the aircraft being taken off these routes?

You wondered where the cuts that the FAA mandated at ORD would come from? Secondary, smaller cities, so bye bye Sioux Falls. You wait, more to come. Isn't the FAA wonderful!

There's still NWA connecting service available through MSP which has a MUCH nicer terminal anyway. Not to mention that HP is starting service from PHX starting in December, so not exactly a total loss for FSD.

And there also is still several Air Wisky and Skywest flights to ORD daily, so connections are still available in ORD.

This does really suck, wait until morning here in NY when others hear. That;s horrible, it's really looking like WN town in ISP. I always take DL,CO and their partners but I'de fly AA before WN. They downgraded the ISP-BOS route to a 135 instead of a 140 last spring. I just looked ast jetnet and the route to ISP isn't that empty! The flights are pretty full for the next two weeks. The week day flights are 27 seats take 2 weeks away. I don't believe that it can be a yield problem. I know many people that are business orientated that have to go to Boston and Providence. Dejana trucking constantly uses AE to jump to BOS and PVR via BOS, they have 2 show rooms up there.

Its a shame about islip. I would figure that AA has the possibility to expand at ISP because of there strong New York presence. I suppose WN is really putting pressure on the other airlines at ISP.

This makes no sense...it's not even like Southwest is competing with American on the only route AA flew (ISP-BOS)...this leaves, among the legacies, ASA (3x CRJ) to Atlanta, Comair (3x CRJ) to Cincinnati, COXJ (2x ER4) to Cleveland, COCX-Commutair (4x BE1) to Albany, USX-Piedmont (4x DH8) to Philadelphia, and USX-Colgan (2x BE1) to Albany...of course, Southwest flies quite a few flights (all of the following, with 737-X00's, of course): 9x Baltimore, 3x Chicago-Midway, 3x Fort Lauderdale, 1x Las Vegas, 3x Nashville, 3x Orlando, 2x Tampa, and 2x West Palm Beach...not to say that I'm expecting 747's to JFK, but I would think that, at the very least, NWAK-Mesaba to DTW, UAX-Shuttle America to IAD, and possibly UAX-AWAC to ORD could be supported...

I dont know about all that. You have WN. i mean, Your airport has proven itself by getting WN, and they arent gonna share the market if they think they can have it all.

I remember when Lakes flew into FSD with the Brasilias.

Speaking of codes, wouldn't it be horrendous to fly from Dickinson, SD to O'Hare via Sioux City? Or vice-versa.. imagine the line-routing on that one...

AA was relying on BOS-ISP traffic. BOS is not a good connector for AA going west. Yes they do have onward flights from BOS but CLE and CVG are better geographically located hubs for this business. I'm suprised about this. US and DL had lots of frequencies at one time with small props. Some carrier should come in a give it ago. Didn't WN pull out of ISP-PVD?

The ERJs used on BOS-ISP are going to be used to increase frequencies on BOS-STL. Eagle is trying to use its aircraft for maximum revenue potential.

AA cannot make money flying those little airplanes when WN sets the fare.
AA began ORD-ISP service in 1971 with 727-023's. FSD was served by OZ and later WA Transworld Airlines (USA)">TW from STL with DC-9's, and by OZ from ORD with DC-9's, before operations were concentrated in STL. UA later served FSD from ORD with mainline equipment. Pulling out of Sioux Falls is a sign that the industry is going to through a rational, rationalization process. From FSD, via MSP on NW, on on UA via ORD, one can get to almost any destination that one could reach via ORD on AA. How much competition does FSD need? Perhaps Delta will return there, and have flights from CVG. WA was the major carrier west and to MSP prior to deregulation from FSD.

DL started service to FSD back in July...3x daily to CVG using CRJ's.

With the arrival of DL, HP and Allegiant, FSD will still have plenty of capacity even with AA's departure.

Wow, this really sucks. ISP is losing all of its airlines. I find it very interesting that there were more airlines at ISP in the early 90's rather than 2004. ISP is going to be some dinky airport now.

According to Jetwire, the daily employee newsletter, AE is discontinuing BOS-ISP for two reasons. One, BOS is the only destination now served by AA/AE from ISP and, even though the flights may be full, there is not enough traffic to make the service viable. Second, and probably the biggest reason is, AE needed aircraft to operate BOS-STL. Apprently American Connection is losing that route and AE is taking it on. That is also why BOS-PHL is ending. They needed the aircraft elsewhere.

FSD will still have service to ORD 5x daily by United Express. I guess FSD is just too small to justify service to ORD from two different airlines.
