Emirates Winter Schedule Update

Sun Oct 03, 2004 3:10 am

An update on Emirates' winter schedules. Some interesting developments. Most notably, Emirates will take signficant advantage of the limited open skies policy the Indian govt. is permitting foreign carriers over the period November 2004 through to end of March 2005. The main changes to India routes are outlined below. In facilitating these flights, there have been some aircraft rotations. Note, Emirates will be taking delivery of 2 additional A340-500s by the end of the year, A6-ERG and A6-ERH. These were supposed to be used to commence flights to San Francisco. Based on the latest info i have, the San Franciso route is not going ahead. No updated news on Sao Paulo yet.

Here are the main highlights

Melbourne (MEL)/Christchurch (CHC) will be upgraded to a daily from the current 6x weekly from the beginning of December 2004.

Osaka (KIX) will move upto to an A340-500 on a daily basis by January 2005. Initially 4 of the weekly flights in early December will move to the 345.

Zurich (ZRH) will move to a mixture of A345, A343 and A332 in early December. From January 2005, it will be A345 on all days except Mon and Wed when it will be A343.

Dusseldorf (DUS) will move to a daily A343 from from January 2005.

The above will result in the freeing up of 2 A330-200 low density aircraft. These will be used on all the extra India frequencies.

India highlights
Mumbai (BOM) - upto 18 additional weeklies
Delhi (DEL) - upto 6 additional weeklies
Chennai (MAA) - upto 5 additional weeklies
Hyderabad (HYD) - upto 5 additional weeklies
Cochin (COK) - upto 4 additional weeklies

Any idea why the San Francisco flights will not be going ahead?

i've been asking that a million times myself, as Emirates would be my choice to fly to DXB/KHI from SFO.

They seem to have plenty of 345s online for varying routes, and if they're wasting them on ZRH they could easily put them elsewhere.

Must be regulatory.

EK is reported to be making losses on the JFK route and they feel that if JFK cant do well as they hoped for then its sensible to wait and expand in North America rather than expand too fast.

However cargo on JFK route does v well with the belly cargo space of the A 345s being usually full!!!

With BOM now having 21+18 new weekly flights...this means 39 times a week so 5-6 times daily on some days  Big grin I guess BOM/DEL will be seeing the return of hopelessly cheap prices for BOM/DEL-DXB-BOM/DEL at INR RS 7-8000 approx return.

If EK isnt expecting more A 345s to be delivered till April 05 then if KIX is going to receive daily A 345s from Jan 05 (which SFO was to have btw!!!), then it confirms the fact that EKs plans for SFO with the A 345 have been put on hold for the time being.

what kind of balance is there between cargo & pax on the A345 JFK-DXB. i've heard EK loads are sub-par on the route, but i'm surprised there is much room for cargo considering the long route and the regular B747 SkyCargo flight via GOT.
