Question About Chinese Airlines

Mon Oct 04, 2004 12:16 am

Why do the Chinese airlines (e.g. Air China, China Eastern, China Southern) operate fleet of totally no commonality?

For example, CA, MU and CZ operate both 733, 737NG and A320 family aircrafts together.

I'm guessing it has to do with political reasons as well as the taking on of aircraft from the smaller airline groups these recent years.

CA also operates a few 343s.

The big three are all atate owned and perhaps they "share" facilities dedicated for different types. For example, another state owned facility takes care of all 733s from CA, MU and CZ and another does all 340s from CA and MU and another does A319/320s for all three. Plus they have not reached the point where labor is a high cost and an issue.
