CO Express Axes A Station Entirely

Mon Oct 04, 2004 6:00 am

CO Express is completely discontinuing service to AGS (Augusta, Georgia) as of the end of this month from both IAH and EWR. Reservations just confirmed it over the phone with me.

This has been known for a while, they pulled it out of res systems 3-4 weeks ago. However, I am surprised that there has been no media attention to it. I can't find anything.

And I even remember they beefed up service for the Master's golf tournament, they even added a couple LGA-AGS flights for the Master's.

Wow, BFL-IAH, a non-stop between 2 of a Californian's least favorite cities. Is that flight really doing that well? I know Bakersfield made a lot of promises to CO to get them to open the route

Not totally surprised by this decision. Basically, they'll just reroute everyone through ATL on DL metal...the joys of DL and CO being in SkyTeam together.

I can't understand why AGS gets so little service...granted, I'm somewhat biased because I go to AGS once a year on business, always on US through CLT...it's Georgia's second-largest city, and yet only has flights to ATL and CLT, ATL's flights with ASA CRJ's and AT7's, and CLT with Piedmont's Dash-8's...I'm lucky, simply because I've never gone to Augusta on a paid ticket, but it's woefully underserved (and overpriced, I recall last year, I would have paid $1300 LGA-CLT-AGS-CLT-LGA if I didn't have a VDB voucher), with all of this in mind, LCC service would be OUTSTANDING for the station, even if it's just Independence CRJ service to IAD (I think this one would stimulate legacy traffic too)

N1120a, BFL-IAH is doing very well. I wouldn't be surprised to see an increase in frequency in the next 6 months. Between the petroleum industry and other travellers looking for eastbound connections they've had good loads.

Now maybe CoEx could find an aircraft to add us here in Fresno. FAT traffic is up almost 10% this year, heading for the largest passenger counts in its history.

The San Jose newspaper reports today that Fresno is now the 4th highest destination of Bay Area residents buying houses outside the San Francisco/San Jose area. We just need the seats to increase with the improving demographics.

Watch there be another ASA or Comair CRJ put into the mix to fill in. What equipment was Express operating in there, an ERJ 135?

The airport went from two airlines only two months ago, and now it has four, including Continental.

Okay. So fly to TPA/MIA and connect to elsewhere.

The new flights make travel between Gainesville and many destinations quicker than before. Thanks to new Tampa and Miami service, travel time between Gainesville and Cancun is cut by one hour; from Gainesville to Dallas is cut by 30 minutes, flying to Nassau from GNV is now cut by more than two hours. Milan is an hour closer, as is Houston.

More importantly, you can now fly to Miami, one of Gainesville largest O&D destinations. No more need to drive, take a train or bus, or catch a flight out of MCO.

How about re-opening BGR??? HAHAHA...
Sorry...had to throw that in...COEX closed my station 5 years ago.
They will probably use the RJ to expand, (even more), into Mexico.

Oh man, no offense, but y'all are trying a little too hard to find a reason for increased air service...

Not that I don't think there's a market for FAT-IAH service, but the fact that at most, 1000 people in OAK and SFO are moving to Fresno over the course of eight months (probably closer to 500, but I digress) means zero to Continental and everyone else that might be considering service to your fine town. The 10% traffic increase is much more relevant, and a good sign of impending expansion at FAT.

N-Dub
