Personally, I'd prefer to see Hawaiian Airlines continue their SAN-OGG service, simply because of its 767's...

However, ANY new service out of SAN is welcomed enthustiastically!!

Wow, this is the longest runway AQ is using in Southern California now. Their pilots must love that.

Check the online reservations...

SAN-RNO is bookable SAN-BUR is not because they are not routing the aircraft via BUR (stage length is way too short).

SAN 0756
SAN 0846
OGG 1240
OGG 1250

Press release also says RNO-SAN-OGG

Should make the tourist industry in Reno happy, they've been trying to get non-stop seats added to SAN.

To clear up any possible confusion: AQ is starting two new flights out of RNO:

RNO-BUR-OGG
RNO-SAN-OGG

These are AQ's second and third RNO flights. About a year ago AQ started in RNO with RNO-SNA-HNL service.

RNOcommctr, you are right, I didn't catch that. Interesting schedules though if I'm reading it right. Both out of Reno leave about the same time.
# 475 leaves at 6:30 am arrive OGG at 12:40 pm
# 463 leaves at 7:15 am arrive OGG at 12:53 pm

Similiarly close times on the returns.

Is there that much demand for 2 flights close together out of Reno or is it just how the tags work out for BUR and SAN?

Good question, FATflyer. All three California cities (SNA, BUR, SAN) that AQ goes to out of RNO before continuing to Hawaii are cities to which we have no other non-stop service at this time (post- Reno Air, that is). So yes, there is quite a bit of demand for the just the RNO-SAN/BUR/SNA segments of these flights.

Wow great route, plus it allows people in SAN to fly nonstop to RNO...wonder if we'll see WN start this nonstop.

Finally! It's about time Aloha started service to SAN. Kudos to AQ for identifying an already-proven market out of SAN (Hawaiian has successfully flown SAN-OGG on a seasonal basis for two years now) and taking advantage of HA's scheduled pullout.

I also expect the RNO tag to be fairly popular. What will really be interesting, however, is whether or not Hawaiian and Aloha can coexist in this market. I think there is room for two carriers on the route, especially if Aloha flies smaller planes and has feed from RNO.

Now, will HA just sit tight and stick with their seasonal routing, or will they bring back SAN-OGG earlier in 2005?

Why have AQ taken the focus from Las Vegas and onto Reno? They used to fly to LAS between OAK and SNA(I think). But now it's just a nonstop between HNL and LAS. There's more business in Reno than Vegas???

LAS is a market with pretty heavy competition from OAK, BUR and SAN (WN has tons of flights a day on these routes). Hawaiians love Nevada, and RNO needs more service to CA, so AQ is taking advantage on both fronts.

Wow three flights a day from Reno...

I am flying to HNL from RNO via SNA on Dec 24... pretty excited about seeing three AQ planes at the same time... If I know the these new flights will come along, I will book myself via SAN and OGG...

Thanks for the news!

Any word on what Terminal AQ will use at SAN? I assume T2 West--it's the most modern, and all new entrants seem to want to operate there.

from a passengers point of view...the west side of Term 2 is a hell of a lot better looking than the other side. I know that we operate out of gates 37 and/or 38 and i love it much better. the other side is so dreary while the "modern" side is more open and very well lit. hopefully AQ will be on the west side to give PAX a much better experience in SAN!
