UA / AA Merger

Fri Oct 08, 2004 4:56 am

Think about it...like the creation of British Airways, does the US need a dominant flag carrier. AA to operate domestic routes fed by UA operating international flights.

UA to operate all 747 and 777
AA to operate hub and spoke with MD80/737/320's

Combined airline to have one market identification - United American Airways.

The biggest issue is anti-trust, but if USair and Delta go away, aren't we basically there already? The LCC could compete for the domestic market and other International carriers would continue to compete on the int'l routes.

No way, no how. It will never happen. It would completely violate Sherman and CO and NW would definately have a problem, since both have significant international ops. The UK has other flag carriers, and while BD and VS are not as big as BA, they provide a significant degree of competition, especially VS. Also, given the size of the US, this would make travel prohibitively expensive and grind commerce to a halt

Would never never happen. First it would violate all types of anti-trust laws. Second, the fleet types are non common it would be an integration nightmare. I highly doubt the APA, APFA, ALPA would EVER agree on intregration issues such as senority, bidding, etc. Third, neither has any $$ to buy the other not to mention the costs of integrating.
What COULD happen is that if either were to go CH7, the other would cherry pick routes, but since fleet types are not common I doubt either would but the others aircraft, escpecially AA who really really is moving towards a simplified fleet.

I could see AA taking DL US or CO under it's wing, never UA, it can't and won't happen. We can dream though! I like American United better than United American.  Smile

You have got to be kidding me....once again! Didnt we have this discussion last week or two weeks ago about this and came to an conclusion that if the UA/AA thing really happened that it would slip further into bankruptcy and cease to exist??

This is the silliest idea that Ive ever heard in my life.
