AA "C" Class: Noise Cancelling Headsets/Wine Lists

Sun Mar 05, 2000 2:36 am

Has anyone recently flown AA from CDG to ORD in Business Class? I have just been notified that the waitlist has cleared for an upgrade to "C" on my return from Paris the week of March 13.

I was wondering if it is likely that my flight will offer the new Bose Acoustic Noise Cancelling Headsets that AA is touting on their web site. I realize they are phasing in this new feature which, they say, is offered on "select" international flights. Have any of you experienced the new headsets? How do they compare to UA's noise cancelling headsets in "C" on their 744's (those were excellent I thought)?

Also, on "AA.com" they publish sample wine lists for various markets and I notice they are still offering the 1988 Pommery "Cuvée Louise" Champagne on flights to/from France. Does anyone know if that is a current wine list? They poured that delightful Champagne last March and I'd love to have it again, but I wonder if the web site reflects an outdated wine list.

Any information will be appreciated...thank you!

Bill

I had the pleasure of trying them and getting a lecture on how they work from Dr. Bose himself. They are frickin' cool, man. I'm waiting to be able to buy them in stores and not just experience them on AA jets. They might replace my stereo; they sound so good. (Maybe not, but you get the point.) You will be impressed, but don't expect *all* the noise to go away. That is actually physically impossible. Expect a 30db drop in noise.

Thanks, D L X...that was fast!

I cannot wait to try them and, as you say, it will be great to finally be able to buy some really good noise cancelling headphones for home/portable use. The only ones I have seen cause major losses in the midrange and it sounds awful.

When I flew United Business on a 744 from AKL to LAX in November of 1998, I was very impressed by the sound quality of their noise cancelling headphones. They dramatically cut ambient noise without sacrificing any of the musical fidelity. I hope the Bose headphones work as well as they did.

As an aside, I understand Dr. Amar Bose is a really neat guy...would like to meet him some day.

Don´t really take Bose serious....

As a Audiophile I now that Bose do not make Speakers/headphones that match another headphones from a other manufacter (for example Sennheiser).

Don´t belive Bose Slogan: A consert in your own home...

I just giving you a advice....Try something else before you buy!

Actually, their slogan is "Better Sound Through Research."

Yes, I'm sure you can pay out the nose for some really expensive speakers, and then compare them to the more cost-effective Bose speakers yada yada yada. I don't think you can do much better on the cost vs. quality curve. Also, don't forget, not everyone is an audiophile, and to truly take advantage of Bose technology, you have to use the whole system; not just the subwoofer, not just the cube speakers.

I took Dr. Bose's class last term. All I can say is he's the man.
