Flying From Blackpool

Fri Oct 08, 2004 8:25 pm

I might be flying from BLK to STN (and thence to NQY) to get home for Xmas. I've just been on BLK's site which says that it's "1 minute from South Shore Station." But when I look on Thetrainline.com, no mention is made of this station. Can anyone assist?

The Trainline.com I think will prompt you with a list of stations if you just input "Blackpool" - give that a try. Maybe its "Southshore".

Tried that, but it just comes up with 'Blackpool North.'

"Squires Gate train station is a five-minute walk from the terminal, with frequent services to and from Preston station, which lies on the national rail network."

Dunno where they got South Shore from. The only station I've heard of called that is in Boston, USA!

LOL @ Soups.  Wink/being sarcastic

Right, got the times - not bad. Interestingly, it's about £7 less to go to Squires Gate than it is to Blackpool North!  Big grin

Thanks a lot for your quick responses.  Smile

The station is definately Squires Gate. Come out of the station turn right and the airport is about 100yds up the road on the same side.

Thanks, Groobster. Dunno why South Shore is listed on BLK's front page, but never mind.

If I do go BLK-STN-NQY-STN-BLK, it'll mean I'll be flying about 25 times with FR until 26th Jan. Big grin

If you think thats bad, wait until you see the Ryanair map of the UK next to check in. Blackpool is twice the size of London, and located somewhere near Carlisle!

I suppose I should also add that Squires Gate was the former name of Blackpool Airport. In the same way that Ringway is now Manchester Airport.

Enjoy those Latvian Ryanair air hostesses!

Blackpool North = Prestwick

In O'Leary-speak anyway. Don't worry, FR will lay on a convenient connecting bus oxcart mule service for only GBP108.00 each way (bring your own hay)

Just spoke to a friend who lives closeby to Blackpool Airport, there IS a South Shore Railway Station. That is near the pleasure beach, but Squires Gate is certainly the closest to the airport.

Try Blackpool South station, unless it's changed recently.

There's not much service into there, it may be quicker to go to Blackpool North and then taxi or bus.

Groobster - there isn't. Beyond Squires Gate is Blackpool Pleasure Beach station (perhaps formerly called South Shore though) and Blackpool South station.

Pe@rson. It's a short walk, but a long run - I was on one of FR's rare LATE (yes, LATE!) flights into BLK and had to run for a train which was crowded with kids from the pleasure beach! bah. But it's an easy walk otherwise. And a nice departure from BLK over Morecambe Bay. I'm already booked on the route twice in the next 4 months Big grin

Enjoy BLK Airport...

Looking on Blackpool's Tram website, South Shore is a BUS stop, not a tram stop, nor a train station. However, Starr Gate looks close to the terminal building (on the trams).

Cheers for all your help, folks! I'm truly grateful.

Due to a slight problem, I'll now only be flying NQY-STN-BLK. I'm looking at going MAN-DUB-BRS, MAN/LPL-BFS-BRS or MAN-GLA-BRS outbound. Oddly, all of these will only cost about £10 more than the train from Bangor to Exeter (£68)! And my dad will pay for it, so... LOL.

I use national rail enquiries if I have to find out what stations are best near the British Airports, the layout is easy to use on the site so you shouldnt have any problems, itll also tell you if you need to change at any stations and what times the trains are.

Why not just go to Blackpool North on the train then jump on a bus from the bus station which is virtually opposite the train station? Just go down the side of Wilkinsons then you will see the bus station, next to Mardi Gras Bar.
