Virgin To Singapore?

Sun Oct 10, 2004 5:28 am

I saw on Virgin's website that they fly to Singapore yet the database has not a single picture of a Virgin plane there.
Is it a codeshare ? It wasn't mentioned on their site.

I think it's a codeshare with Singapore Airlines.

its a codeshare with SQ, there's a similar thing with KUL with MH providing the service, and also another option to get to SYD.

Wow, than they have some strange pricing going on.
I checked LON-SIN and GRZ-FRA-SIN, both codesahre appearently.
From LON it's some 400 € more expansive than from FRA including the flight from Graz.
Maybe it's a Virgin-premium  Wink/being sarcastic

Remember that SQ is a major shareholder in Virgin.....I really dont expect Virgin to fly its own equipment into Singapore and compete with SQ. Likely a codeshare.

Virgin plans to fly LHR to SYD via Hongkong, instead of the more traditional Kanagroo route via Singapore mainly to avoid direct competition with SQ.

VS LHR-SIN is a codeshare flight with SQ, the thing is why do they codeshare with MH to KUL and extend the service to SYD? i mean they could do LHR-SIN-SYD with SQ instead of LHR-KUL-SYD.

VS codeshares with MH twice a day on LHR-KUL sector. Just find it strange as to why they only codeshare on KUL-SYD once a day, instead of two to meet with the two daily arrivals. KLM on the other hand, codeshares with all flights to Australia/NZ from KUL to meet with 12 weekly flights between AMS & KUL.

Had a look at Virgin's new pricing to SYD.

Around £700 in Ecomony
£1600 for Premium Y
£3500 for business

Compare that with QF for the same times
£690 exonomy
£2800 business

also BA's WT+ is approx £1500

Ah but ANstar,

When you compare QF and VS's Business class you've got to take into account, VS's extra's.

Limo to and from your house and hotel,
Clubhouses at the Airports (with Beauty Therapists , Hairstylists and Restuarants,
Drive through Check In Areas at London Airports,
Onboard Beauty Therapists that will do massages, manicures etc...
The Onboard Bar &
The New Upper Class Suite with the biggest Flat Bed ever (Longer and Wider than BA's First Class Sleeper !!) Let's not forget this is a Business Class and not a First Class Cabin.

VS's & BA's Prices for Sydney for a return trip on a set date is:-

VS Economy £1186.90 BA World Traveller £1285.90
VS Premium Economy £2019.90 BA World Traveller + £2031.90
VS Upper Class £3520.90 BA Club World £3708.90

British Airways are more Expensive !!!

But then BA don't have a braggart who announces routes and doesn't start them. Still waiting (probably in vain) for the MAN-MIA service promised for 1987 which an egomaniac announced in 1986; or even a press release for the cancellation of the MAN-BGI service which was due to start a year ago.

the codeshare with MH on the KUL-SYD sector will probably end later in the year as VS are due to start LHR-SYD flights via HKG with their own metal.

Also SQ owns 49% of VS so it would be stupid for VS to compete with SQ on the LHR-SIN sector. VS probably don't see enough demand on that route to warrant them using their own equiptment.
