We if you want to leave the NW terminal just walk over on level 6 to the Parking deck then go to the top. Or do the same at the Smith Terminal arrivals level bridge to the "Big Blue Deck." That's about the best you can do without a car.

1:51 isn't really a lot of time, but like mentioned above, the Big Blue Lot has good runway views. I've spotted from there before.

You can't take any good pics inside the terminal beacause of that "safety glass" but if you are there around 4:45-5:00 you will see tons of widebodies. Last time I was in DTW I saw about 8 NW A330's, BA 777, LH A340, and a NW DC-10.

Depends if you just want to take pictures or not. Actually if you stand back a few feet from the safety glass those marks don't show up. I've gotten some pictures at DTW without marks

I would go to Concourse B depending which way the wind is blowing i guess though, there you are pretty close to runway 4R/22L. If the planes are taking off to the north they will take off by you and taxiing aircraft will taxi by you. If they are taking off to the south, then that place isnt so great.

I noticed the other day, that the ramp connecting the new Westin Hotel and the entrance ramp does not have the same "saftey glass". So if you are interested in getting some shots of DC-9's and a few Airbus aircraft that's not bad. Those would be gates A-5 through A 35.

But like I said you can go outside the mcnamma terminal to the mcnamma deck and see planes off of 3L.

I would go up to the 9th level of the Mac Terminal parking deck. Stay off the 6th floor because there are a lot of people on that level. You know how people get these days if they see a camera.

He said he was going to be there are 11am. Is 11am still a big arrival time like it used to be pre 9-11?

Well of course go to the 9th level. I didn't mean for him to stay on 6, it is just so many people can't figure out how to get across to the deck so 6 is the safest and easiest way. And level 9 is good b/c no one is up there except some pilots watching planes and once I saw some NW employees on smoke break. So no big deal

11am isn't that busy from what I recall...things slow down a little after 9,9:30am and don't pick back up until 2pm with that big rush between 3 and 4.
