Seattle Airport Plans For Expansion?!

Sun Mar 05, 2000 8:51 am

OK-everybody has been saying that after the Aisan financial flu that new Asian airlines will start flying into SEA. Well, the flu has passed and I don't see any more flights. Possible newcommers included JAL, CX, KAL, Tahi (they used to service SEA), Malaysia, SQ, etc... Also I saw an Asiana 767-300ER at SEA the other day. Have they changed their service from Seoul from a 747-400 to a 767-300ER? What is next for SEA?

Not to be a pessimest, but I doubt there will be any future Seattle expansion. ANA and JAL surely won't fly into SEA from NRT, as the market is over-saturated with NW, AA, and UA offering daily flights, and KIX is being operated by a NW DC-10 which runs about 2/3rds full. HKG was a disaster for NW even before the Asian Flu hit (and was only operated 4X's/week), thus forcing the cancellation of that route. SQ and TG really have no large reasons to fly into SEA.

On a bright side, CX and KAL could be a possibility. KAL mainly for cargo purposes, but CX (if they did it right) could probably be profitable, just as long as they have AA to feed US Domestic flights (same as UA did in the 80's).

Within the next several months concourse A will be rebuilt. Also the underground train system is scheduled for renovation. After concouse A is rebuilt there will be up to an additional 6 gates, Once it is completed concourse D will also be rebuilt with additional gates added

Concourse D?

I have not heard of any plans for re-modeling or expanding concourse D as they were re-modeled in the early 1990's. The plans, according to, is to re-build and expand concourse A, re-model the main terminal, re-furbish the underground transit system and build the third runway. Completed already is huge expansion of the parking garage.

lengthening the D councourse would the end gates somewhere in Tukwilla.
