A380 Vs 744 3D Comparison

Wed Oct 13, 2004 12:31 pm

Just saw this 3D comparison between these two planes on the website for the new Bangkok airport
http://www.suvarnabhumiairport.com/demo/en/3d1en.php

Don't know how accurate the scaling is as it seems to make the A380 way bigger?!

I think it's not accurate at all! Let's see the details:

A380:
Overall Length: 73m
Wingspan: 79.8m
Height (to the vertical fin height): 24.1m
(from Airbus's webiste)

B744:
Overall Length: 70.66m
Wingspan: 64.44m
Height (to the vertical fin height): 19.41m
(from Boeing's website)

So clearly, though the wingspan is way bigger, the A380 is only a mere 2.34m longer than the 744. And also, both aircraft will feature a 3-4-3 configuration in Y-class. By looking at the 3D representation, the 747 looks like it has 737 fuselage width. It's impossible. Also, 3D model uses a 742, not a 744.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
AK

Some see lines, others see between the lines.

an exaggerated 747 wings! Good point!

Not to mention, who puts jetways on the right side of an aircraft
Maybe we should start entering through the kitchen of the a/c

Yes, I agree with Burnsie28. The website is a joke

Yes, it is a joke. Too bad, I would have been interested by a realistic drawing. The problem is that people doing these drawings have an incentive to make the A380 look more spectacular than it really is: it makes their drawing spectacular!

Just saw the little animation on how they're going to handle the A380. It doesn't make sense. In that animation, 2 B747s push back and 1 A380 takes the place.

It defeats one of the main purpose of the A380, which is to get more pax through while using the same number of gates. The airspace is still saved, but in that scenario, they are certainly waisting precious gate space. I don't get it.
Never let the facts get in the way of a good theory.

When did the a380 get wide enough to handle a 5-5-5 configuration  Smile
