When Does 757 Production Cease?

Wed Oct 13, 2004 3:12 pm

Are there any more on order or in production that need to be filled?

And all at once the crowd begins to sing: Sometimes the hardest thing and the right thing are the same

Production of the 757 will cease at the end of this year. I believe that the last one to be delivered, a 200 Series, is already being built. No more 300 is to be built, Continental took delivery of the last one already. When Boeing took the decision to end the 757 production line earlier this year, Air 2000 and some Chinese carriers still had a few 200's waiting to be delivered.
There was a post recently about Northwest insisting reopening the 757 production line but I don't think that will happen.

There are now just two 757-200s for Shanghai Airlines. At least one is probably finished and going through pre-delivery test while the last one is either finishing up assembly or already finished and started pre-delivery tests.

I am for one definitely saddened to see a good airliner being discontinued but this is business. Long live the 75 rocket.

I sat-in on a company/pilot meeting while on a layover at Narita two weeks ago and learned Northwest would have liked between 10 and 20 additional 757-300's, but Boeing turned them down.

That is so sad to me - I have flown many different airlines on many different aircraft, but the 752 always made me feel so safe. I for one would love to see Boeing have a change of heart and put the 757 back on line.
Oh how I miss Midway Airlines. A class act right to then end.

production has already ended.

The last 757 built is in the paint hangar.

Shanghai will take delivery of the last two 757's built in April '05. Until then they will be stored.

Man oh man, this seriously bums me out. My brain understands why Boeing is doing this, but my heart thinks that Boeing is making a serious mistake. With the winglets coming out, and 7E7 technology kicking in, I think Boeing will be serouisly kicking themselves that they shut down the 757.
