It is interesting - and I write as an Air NZ
long haul passenger since 1968, and domestic since NAC merged in 1979 - that I find flying AirNZ domestically is an even BETTER experience since they stopped serving meals.
Full meal service to 100 passengers on a 28 minute sector WLG
was totally disruptive as people rushed around frenetically, leant over you, asked what wine you wanted and grabbed your tray as the undercarriage was coming down.
Now these flights are havens of calm where I can do a little work if I want to or just meditate, and a much more relaxed cabin crew are noticeably more pleasant - which is a much greater contribution to my well being than frantic food and slightly frazzled staff.
I suspect this latter point must be more important than we realise given that Air NZ
is scoring so well despite the current behind the market IFE and seating on international. Mind you, the A320 cabins are as good as it gets outside of a sleeper bed.
