Fool Steals GA Aircraft, Forced To Land At CDG

Fri Oct 15, 2004 12:27 am

It appears that some people have too much spare time on their hands...
A young man that was apparently drunk managed to steal a DR400 (French light aircraft) by breaking into Coulommiers (Paris suburbs) airfield on Tuesday night.
he managed to takeoff and fly into the Paris CDG TMA before being intercepted by a French Air Force radar station who sent out a ventilator to intercept him.
He was thus forced to land in CDG, where he was apprehended by CDG security. He however managed to evade them by jumping from their vehicle.
French authorities arrested him later on as he had forgotten his aprtment keys in the aircraft. He is now in custody in Coulommiers.

The fool article (sorry, in French) :

So once 707CMF gets out of jail, are you going to have to return the favour so he can plug some of his pictures?  Laugh out loud

This is a good example of how western countries are open to terrorist attacks by light aircraft. GA acft are (rightly) quite common and military radar systems filter them out as ground clutter. Civilian controllers may not even be aware of an unauthorized presence until it is too late. While it is embarrasing that this happened, it is not a freak situation... I at first thought a SAM was launched against the aircraft and it was, uh, ventilated. Now I see otherwise.

In the article it says that they sent up a helicopter to intercept. Hope that clears up the confusion.

... who sent out a ventilator to intercept him.

And somewhere in a Paris hospital, some poor soul is breathing with the aid of a Mirage.

You could just as easily substitute "cars" for light/GA aircraft...

even the TSA has conceded that GA aircraft do not pose a serious threat to homeland security, a position born out by the unfortunate story in early 2002 of the teenager in Florida who took a 172 and flew it into a Tampa office building, breaking not much more than himself, the airplane, and a couple of windows.

We had a simialr incidnet happen out oa Parafield Airport once. An arguement between a guy and his girlfriend lead to him stealing a Cessna 152. He had very little flying exprience and he crashed it.

What a funny guy... He should have jumped on a 747's wing and rode off with it clining on for dear life while it takes off  Big thumbs up

LOL....... yup, they sent the ventilator to the Ga plane while the Mirage helped the dude breathe  Big thumbs up

Uh-huh. I translated that on purpose Big grin

Ventilator : A device that moves air by the means of rotating blades.

By that definition then pretty much everything we talk about here is a "ventilator"  Big grin

I was thinking a "ventilator" was more like something similar to a Dassault Rafale with guns. One of those could "ventilate" a DR 400 in milliseconds.
