"disputing postings on the Internet that the bankrupt carrier has put planes up for sale"

""Some individuals intent on spreading rumors and fear have decided to start circulating two-year-old notices from our previous restructuring regarding potential aircraft for sale," Chris Chiames, senior vice president of corporate affairs said in a statement.

I guess US AIRWAYS must be having some spies or members on AIRLINERS.NET  Big grin who showed their management team what we were saying !!!

A very bizarre press release, to say the least!

I dumped at the gybe mark in strong winds when I looked up at a Porter Q400 on finals. Can't stop spotting.

This is in response not only to some incorrect internet threads, but mostly to the fact that the PIT AFA LEC President sent out an E-Line with the incorrect information, and that some pilots have also been using the incorrect information to campaign and scare against the tentative agreement.
I'm the expert on here on two things, neither of which I care about much anymore.

According to the announcement yesterday from our sources, approval was made for a 21% paycut to fleet service, outsourcing of heavy maintenance, and a reduction in fleet; although no details were given. A reduction in fleet sounds like the selling of airplanes to me.

Actually, reduction in fleet doesn't necessarily mean selling planes at all. Just returning aircraft to lessors.

So that would mean that the rumor about the 3 Airbus a/c could go to NW seeing how they could probably use them and if they go through the same lease agreement/leasser then there should be no issues and before doing anything I bet they would like to see their a/c.... It still makes sense to me. Maybe US is pissed b/c their bluff was called??

Thanks again.

Yeah, their bluff was called. But I don't think they're pissed. I think they expected this to happen all along. This is probably all part of the misterious master plan. Who the hell knows. But there's no more room in the desert to park airplanes. So a reduction in fleet has got to mean we're going to sell some of them. Unless David Copperfield is going to come along and make them magically disappear. And in answer to your question, I don't see anything standing in the way.

Do US actually own any of their aircraft?

On the topic of the new routes, there's a whole slew of new flights out of DCA, including EMB-170s to IAH, DFW, CLE, DTW, etc.

New frequencies out of PHL too.

HOW can their be a whole slew of flights out of DCA? I thought it was slot restricted???? Are these just upgrades or did they drop some destinations.. Something smells fishy here..

Is this new informations being received from their website or somewhere else?

I vaguely remember hearing that DCA is slot controlled only with mainline aircraft, and not so much on regional jets, turbos, etc... and the E170s are under USAirways Express, I could be wrong though.

Hmm.. I thought it was the number of A/C.. so if you fly a RJ or a 734 in.. it still counts as one slot.. it you fly either out.. it's another slot.. I could be wrong too, though..

but it seems funny that RDU went from 7 RJ to 3 mainline (1 E170, 3 RJ) without some sort of FAA docket present.. seems that would have called for FAA approval if it was by mainline aircraft rule.
