Any Dornier 328 Operators In The USA?

Sun Oct 17, 2004 10:21 am

Are there any US operators of the Dornier 328 prop left? I heard PSA retired the last of theirs recently.

As far as I know...there aren't any airlines...but there are some corporate 328s around

Good observation Jcary. I know Air Wisky used to run United Express on this bird, but can't find any recent shots, so I'm guessing they do that a/c no more.

The prop version is popular in China. Somewhat of a surprise to me, as I think of Asia to have very high loads, even on short flights.

No US operators came to mind so I thought I would ask. There must be a lot in storage somewhere. There were a good number of operators a few years ago: Horizon, PSA, Air Wisky, and some upstarts. Guess deHavilland won out bigtime. The 328Jet isn't so hot either. Very few operators of that aircraft too. Soon I think just Skyway will after ACA gives them up.

I actually like the 328Jet (DoJo) from the customer side. I fly a lot of DL and really liked the experience. As well as using concourse A in CVG.

And among the Delta Connection aircraft (jet type), here are my favorites:

-CR7 - Row 13 seats
-DoJo - Seat 9A = Best single RJ Seat in the air IMHO
-ERJ - Seats designated as "A" - nice windows.
-CRJ - Hate every seat unless someone is not sitting next to me.

However, every discussion I have had with airline (gate/ground) staff about the DoJo has been negative from their side - maintenance issues, baggage chamber, etc.

Satena operates them here in Colombia and AFAIK they're quite happy with them. Mom flown it and she says it rocked..

PSA finally ditched their 328s? Thank God...I flew one from CAE to PHL last year and the thing was disgusting inside...the interior was beat to hell and back, the plane's weather radar crapped out halfway to PHL....altogether an experience I wouldn't want to repeat.

Aeropostal from Venezuela says it will start operations by the end of October with six DO328 and later introduce another 6. I wonder where they could come from.

Apart from Corporate Do 328-100s there are no D38s in service in the USA. Most of them currently fly in Europe (ScotAirways, Air Alps, Cirrus Airlines and others), in South America (Club VIP, SATENA) and in Africa (Bristow Helicopters Nigeria, DANA).

In Asia there are currently no D38s in service AFAIK, however many FRJs (328JETs) are operated there (Hainan Airlines, Wanair).

In the past few weeks there were several rumours about 328-100 (D38) fleet additions:
° Aeropostal with 6+6
° Central Mountain Air with 2
° Sun Air with 8 + 2 options on the 328JET

Apart from that several otehr D38 deals (all used frames) are under negotiation as far as I understand.

Well if you want to see any of the PSA and Air Wisky ones...I counted around 10 on the ramp in OKC a couple weeks ago. I got a few picks of them, not airliners quality since it was from the rental. Anyone want to start an airline?  Smile

They were joined by an Alitalia MD-80 and a couple Champion 727s in for mx.

Don't forget the 328JET variant - currently operated by Midwest Connect (Skyway) and soon to be retired by Atlantic Coast Airlines dba Delta Connection.

Incidentally that Bell South D328 was here at DAB today. I don't know why, but it took off around 2pm.

In fact you answered my question by posting that picture because I was going to ask who flew a D328 with a blue and white tail.
