Can't vouch for other airports but on a recent trip stateside I would say that Terminal 1 at LAX
was pretty bad at 5am in the morning and 4pm in the evening when I had flights to PHX
last month it was 50-100 meters outside the door. (not so bad considering the weather was decent but if it were wet and cold!!!) Also PHX
terminal 2 at 7-8am in the morning was pretty bad as well.
I know these might have been peak times for travel but it took the best part of an hour to get through the security checkpoint.
The airlines are going to have to clamp down on the carry on luggage that people take on as one of my flights LAX
was not even half full with passengers when all the overhead bins were full, and one woman on a PHX
flight had 2 suitcases, a laptop bag, a handbag and 2 plants as carry on. Can you imagine her at the checkpoint and then having to take her shoes, overcoat and belt off as well.
I tell you some people don't half complain about the security checkpoints and then go well overboard with the carry on items.
If everybody was forced to carry one small bag and one small bag only the security checkpoints would be so much easier to get through.
Flying may not be all plain sailing, but the fun of it is worth the price.
