LanExpress To MIA

Tue Oct 19, 2004 1:15 am

Very odd...

LanExpress has applied with DOT to offer once weekly service between Miami and Santiago de Chile, operated by LanChile:

Service commences, pending approval, in November.

Hmmm interesting, why have LANExpress file the request; rather than LAN?

interesting news MAH...

LanExpress usually operates only nroow-bodies like the A319 and A320. Do plan to introduce a multi-hop flight connecting all their LAN affiliates?
Santiago-Lima-Guayaquil-Santo Domingo-Miami. Sounds interesting.

I think it should be a matter of rights.

Lan Express was founded as the rename of Ladeco (UC), the former competitor of LAN. UC was buyed by LA after IB's aweful management in 1995, at the time, LA took all international destinations of UC.

Since LA+UC represented more than 90% of all Chilean operations, the Chilean Anti-Monopoly Commission denied any attempt of fusion beteen them, so Lan Express and Lan Chile, by law command, must be different airlines.

So, I think LAN is using some of the former UC's rights to MIA to increase the frequency. Lan Express so far has only 2 international destinations, both of them operated by Lan Chile: Mendoza, Argentina (MDZ) and Rio de Jaineiro (GIG), plus some freight flights to MIA. I think this is also that strategy.

Actually, those multi stop flights already exist, all onboard 767s:

SCL-LIM-BOG-MIA
SCL-LIM-CCS-MIA
SCL-GYE-BOG-MIA
SCL-HAV-CUN-MIA
SCL-PUJ-MIA

and also, among some combinations:
SCL-LIM-GYE-MIA
SCL-LIM-GYE-MAD

Are you sure they only operate narrowbodies? I'm booked on a 767 SCL-RIO in Jan and it says my flight is operated by Lan Express?

Is there any difference in service standards between Express and the mainline LAN operations?

TrolleyDolley...your 767 for SCL-RIO is a LanExpress flight, but is operated by LanChile (now LAN...remember that!). I took that flight last february...so it's the same service LAN gives in all flights.

Just as a side note... LanChile offers the lowest fares in the CCS-MIA-CCS market. Regretfully they only fly 2X weekly  Sad

Yes, the only difference between Lan Chile and Lan Express onboard is the colors of the head rests in every seat.

Thanks everyone.
Looking forward to my first LA experience. I've heard nothing but praise about its service standards.
