I think it should be a matter of rights.
Lan Express was founded as the rename of Ladeco (UC), the former competitor of LAN. UC
was buyed by LA
's aweful management in 1995, at the time, LA
took all international destinations of UC
+UC represented more than 90% of all Chilean operations, the Chilean Anti-Monopoly Commission denied any attempt of fusion beteen them, so Lan Express and Lan Chile, by law command, must be different airlines.
So, I think LAN is using some of the former UC
's rights to MIA
to increase the frequency. Lan Express so far has only 2 international destinations, both of them operated by Lan Chile: Mendoza, Argentina (MDZ) and Rio de Jaineiro (GIG
), plus some freight flights to MIA
. I think this is also that strategy.
