Direct from the Delta News Network:
An open letter from former Delta executives to CEO Jerry Grinstein praises the company and expresses optimism over its prospects of overcoming the present challenges. The letter was from David C. Garrett, retired chairman of the board and CEO, and Hollis L. Harris, retired president and COO.
"Based on our experience in the industry and knowledge of the company," the letter reads, "we believe you now have a strong, viable roadmap intended to address essential elements of survival and long-term future success: satisfied customers, reliable operations, reduced costs and a profit-sharing plan so Delta people can share in any future success."
Garrett and Harris note how Grinstein sought their counsel in recent months and shared with them the transformation plan. The letter also speaks highly of Delta employees and underscores the sacrifices they have made to help keep the company viable.
"We recognize that sacrifices from every employee group are needed if the transformation is to succeed, and we understand the resulting impact on you and your families," the letter says. "We want you to know that you have our support and admiration as you work to save a great company."
Good to see that 2 of the greatest executives Delta ever had support and agree with Grinstein's turnaround plan. For many who do not know, Garrett served as Delta CEO between 1978-1987 and Hollis Harris spent 30 years with Delta before steering Continental Airlines out of bankruptcy in 1991. He is also the recent retiring CEO of World Airways.
