Air Canada New Colours Here!

Wed Oct 20, 2004 1:54 am

It was quite an event with Céline Dion in the new uniform, and with new seat and external colours. We were also shown the new ad campaign.

Here is a link to some of my pictures taken this morning:

http://www.flightattendants.org/photopost/showgallery.php/cat/500/ppuser/1535

...and take the time to see some of my other pics will ya!? LOL!

We'll have to wait a sunny day before we can truly see the very shiny paint job. Otherwise it looked kinda "Crestlike" in the drab skies...

Whoa, there, don't get too imaginative there, AC - we don't want the creative juices to run dry too quickly.

(Is this a new concept from the legendary design house, Bland, Dull & White Inc.?)

As far as I can see, all they changed was the tail design. I suppose it is ok, but couldn't they have put more imagination into this new scheme?

Not a drastic change, I think I like the current colors better just from looking at the pictures...

Kaitak...I love your reply, you must have sent it in while I was typing mine. I was expecting something really new and different, but is seems all we got was "warmed over" Air Canada. They could have just left it the way it was for all the difference this design makes!

Nooooooo!! That is the most horrible change I've ever seen for an airline. Probebly again to save cost on painting.

Not much change, but a beautiful new c/s nonetheless. I espicially like the gradient on the tail.

So there seems to be an indication that the white fuselage paint itself is different?

what do you see that is so "beautiful" about this new scheme? For all the change it made they really should have just left the old scheme!

I guess it could be worse, it could have been that horrific green/orange/red disaster that was posted in the past week or so.
Now it should be "IFLYDCA"

From the photos it appears to me the basic paint is a greenish off-white like JALs new livery is kind of pinkish off-white. Or does the green tint come from the bad light?
But if its just white, I give it a big BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Even less colour than the colourless old one that would be. My god, what a disappointment. I was expecting "Phoenix from the Ashes." This is a bunch of funeral flowers.

The new design is, in a word, bland.

The upside is that the new seats do look good.

It's a shame the industry trend seems to be one of conservative corporate identity design, resulting in look-alike exterior color schemes and variations on blue interiors and uniforms.

More esoterically, it probably does mirror the current state of the airline industry.

One question: What is AC's new service supposed to look like? Are they going to announce improvements to all service classes or are they going down the "wannabe LCC" route so prevelent in the industry today?

So much for the "big" surprise! Its hidious!! A new paint scheme for the tail and just a new coat of paint for the rest of the fuselage. Boring...so much for the "new" flair and marketing of Air Canada.

A truly disappointed,

Hey Greg,

thanks for the link...been dying to see some real shots of this livery for days! I honestly think it looks OK! I wanted to see a more drastic change, but I think it somehow looks much more modern than the old one. At least it's much better than that horrid green/red/orange scheme they had drawn up a few weeks ago! Smile

The livery is weak--but it appears from the press release that they will be fitting ptvs to CRJs

It's hard to tell, is the fuselage tinted a pale blue/green color?

For all the change it made they really should have just left the old scheme!

No. Considering that the repainting aircraft is necessary during the D checks, doing away with the black tail is a good move.

Ok, shameless plug time. The lighting made it hard to see the blue but sure brought the shine out.

Not only PTVs on the CRJs but it sounds more like AVOD throughout the entire fleet from the press release. I am a little sceptical on that though, wouldn't the weight and electrical demands be too much for say a CRJ-200?

The only thing holding the old livery together was the beautiful tail. Now that the tail is just blah, the rest of the plane becomes crap too. Your new scheme SUCKS AC!

I'll hold off judgement until I see the thing in decent light, but so far it seems very bland.
PTVs will be standard on all aircraft including the CRJs as mentioned above. Possibly in response to Westjet's Live TV?
Thankfully the hideous green uniforms will be replaced! Big grin

I have to agree with most of you so far, the new c/s is very boring and drab. My initial impression was its an all-white plane with a red maple leaf. It's like the schemes some airline put on their planes as an interim scheme until they're fully painted!

What a shame...was expecting something unique...or at least eye-catchy.

It also appears from the "photoshopped" picture on Air Canada's website that the font has been updated on the fuselage.

I like the shiny part of it but come on! Wheres the color?!?!

I wud hve loved to be there though to see Celine Dion singing for Air Canada,
does anyone have a link for the song she sings?

It's hard to judge the true colour of the fuselage from Gregoire's photos. The rear end looks blueish while the nose looks almost like a duck-egg green. The trim surrounding the door is definitely green. I guess we'll have to wait to see it outside on a sunny day to see the true colour - which is probably white.

At least you can see the Maple Leaf. That's a bit harder to decipher in the current livery under some lighting conditions.

I'm going to buck the trend and say, I LOVE IT! I mean.. I am little worried about the green on the main body. but the tail is STUNNING. Absolutely amazing.

I think it's much much better then some of the other "new" colorschemes we've seen in the last few years. Take NW for example, what CRAP!

Just my $0.02.

I like it a lot! Can't wait to see it in the sunshine! Wow! It's clear they borrowed the concept from NWA, but gave it the arctic look. Even the uniforms have the "Ice" theme which is BTW very very nice!

Looking closer at the pics the tail isn't white. It starts off with the red leaf which is the same one we've grown to love/hate then behind it is a larger leaf in an icy light blue. The top of the tail appears to be a darker blue with the bottom half of the tail to be a light light blue. Not a bad design and I do like it. I wish the fuselage had the same icy blues.

Still trying to see whether or no the body of the aircraft is all white or green-white. the tail is fresh, neat, and simple - I like. I guess the colours of AC's website were somewhat of a giveaway, as they had adopted this scheme (at least colour wise) a while back.

It was quite an event with Céline Dion in the new uniform

Oh yes.......the woman who lives in the US -- and refused to participate in Canada Day a few years ago! Terrrrrrrific choice for AC.

She was actually just fired by Chrysler -- her ads there flopped.

Here is a link to some of my pictures taken this morning:

Nice pics Pimp! Actually the Zoom 763 stands out more parked at T2 than the AC flyover! Good one!  Smile

don't get too imaginative there, AC - we don't want the creative juices to run dry too quickly.

All the creative juices at AC are focused on keeping Robert Milton employed.

..and take the time to see some of my other pics will ya!? LOL!

oh jeez Greg....I'm kinda pushed for time now....

The livery is weak--

Ya, the best description so far.

I like it a lot! Can't wait to see it in the sunshine!

Might actually be a better scheme in dull light with cloud cover. In the sun it may appear white or too bright.

I dumped at the gybe mark in strong winds when I looked up at a Porter Q400 on finals. Can't stop spotting.

Eh. I think it's neither good nor bad. It doesn't do anything for me either way. It's not striking, it's not controversial, it's just "there". Maybe that's the point. This is Air Canada, after all.

(runs, hides)

Those uniforms are absolutely hideous, though.

With the exception of the tail, the design doesn't look all that different. However, the color of the fuselage has me curious to know how it'll look in different lighting conditions. Overall the new scheme gets the thumbs up from me, it's neither drastic or simple, and it does look better than the old one.

I definatly don't see the "subtle blue" that the photographer mentions. It looks bland white all the way back to the tail. As far as I can tell the only change is the tail and it's for the worst. Again, a terrible livery.

Im sorry, but I think its ugly. I know other didnt like the previous color scheme because it was boring, but this is just ugly. At least the previous scheme was simple, even classic. But this? this makes the plane look like a gigantic breath mint.

That's what I'd call a disappointment, although the tail's okay! But the fuselage - ugh!

The weird thing is that the fuselage takes on a bluish tint and in other pics, a greenish tint. I don't know whether it's the lighting conditions or the cameras of the photographers who took those pics. I've never seen any airline to change colors like that! Hence a new nick for AC - Air Chamaleon!
