Mexican Customs Question

Wed Oct 20, 2004 12:08 pm

In the near future I am planning on flying QRO-MTY-JFK and back. On VW and AM (respectivly). On the return leg, I have a 1hr stop in MTY.

Now, can JFK check me through to QRO?

I ask this because the other day while flying MEX-QRO I was talkin to this guy who had just flown in from CDG, and was checked through to QRO. He cleared customs in QRO, where an inmigartion officer was waiting for him.

Thanks in advance

Regards

Mr. Bhutan Pzurita1,

I've heard rumors flight will be back only for 3 months... Nov, Dec, Jan! Don't know the exact days!

Slightly off-topic, and I'm probably exposing my ignorance about Mexico here, but I thought Monterrey was the industrial heart of Mexico, and *not* really a tourist destination, nor near any tourist destinations, thus why would there be a winter peak season? If Rojo, Ghost47, or N405MX can set me straight, I'd love to know more.

Csavel:

Actually MTY is the industrial hearth of Mexico, but they are making some investments for make MTY a tourist place, we have here:
Chipinque (Ecologic park in the Sierra Madre mountains)
Cola de Caballo (waterfalls and park)
Presa de la boca (a dam used to fishing and waterspors)
and some other tourist sites (museums, parks, etc), also you have some places nearby that you can visit on a weekend like the comercial zone of "Los Cavazos"

Actually, the peak winter season is for the Mexican-Americans living in the United States. They come to Mexico to visit their families and friends during Christmas and New Years eve. They stay for one or two months. For example, last time I flew MEX-JFK, there was a gardener who lives in Porchester, NY besides me. He told me that every year he comes to GDL in November and returns in March. He said that the company he works for always fires him in november (because of snow) and re hires him in March...

Getting a cheap ticket on the JFK-MEX or JFK-MTY routes in december and january is almost impossible...

Or the opposite way! Wealthy mexicans with relatives in the US go visit the snow and malls and stay there for a month or two months! A lot of people in Mexico start travelling or their vacations from the last two weeks of November till the first two weeks of January.

This is mainly the real reason of the flights and the 'peak season'.
