depends on the airline, but 6 1/2 from JFK to LHR and 7 1/2 from LHR to JFK (tail winds)
Being a frequent pax on just this AA
route, I can tell you that around 6 hours is actual flying time from takeoff to hold above LHR
, but the flight is seldom less than ½-1 hour longer than that.
The scheduled time is around 7 hours eastbound and and around 7½ westbound. This is because if you arrive early at JFK
, you will probably land early. If you arrive early at LHR
during the morning rush, you will probably circle for 10-30 minutes. This is not always bad. Holding over London on Monday morning, I had a gorgeous view of a VS
744 3/4 laps ahead and below us as it caught the morning sun while cruising just above the clouds. Marvelous!
Ah, and I have never seen anything but 777s scheduled. As long as I get my 42 a or j, I'm happy!
