this subject happens to be one in which I think the charter airlines outshine the scheduled by far! for example, I have never been on a charter flight in europe where i have not received a hot meal and been able to have access to some form of entertainment. This even includes the flight from BFS
which only takes just under 2 hrs, altho it is scheduled normally at about 2hrs15.
On the other hand, scheduled flights i have been on, i have NEVER been served a hot meal (apart from a British Midland flight to LHR
when i was about 10) and never had any form of IFE. And the scheduled flights have always been way more costly. EG
: I flew on Aer lingus from dublin to rome (this was in 1999, before they became a LCC on short haul routes) and all we got was one free drink and a cold sandwich. Have also flown on British Midland to PMI
and also, no hot meal or IFE.
So IMHO I would far rather travel on a charter airline within europe, as the service standards seem to be better in my experience. the only drawback is the legroom, but I can deal with that for a few hours at least!
