Mexicana Air expands PDX service
Mexicana Airlines will increase the number of nonstop flights between Portland International Airport and Guadalajara, Mexico, from four to five, beginning Dec. 6.

The added frequency is in response to demand from business and leisure travelers in the region, said Jorge Goytortua, Mexicana's West Coast regional vice president.

With the added flight, the airline is scheduled to depart PDX at 12:30 a.m. Fridays through Tuesdays.

"Guadalajara is home to many of Mexico's technology-based businesses," said Gov. Ted Kulongoski. "This additional flight provides yet another opportunity to facilitate business between Oregon and Mexico and increase trade relations."

Mexicana plans to continue using the A319 aircraft for its PDX operations.

FAT's airport director was in Mexico City 2 weeks ago for negotiations. But still going to be a few months before Fresno starts.

That's great news, Leneld. For the longest time all I heard was "Mexicana is doing poorly and won't be around for much longer." Nice to hear otherwise, good for PDX! Also, how are the LH and NW international flights doing?

From what I've read so far both Lufthansa and NWA are pleased with PDX. Lufthansa, however, is still planning on making it's usual winter schedule adjustments out of PDX. Our city and business leaders aer still working very closely with these airlines and it appears that these newly forged relationships are paying off .Glad to see our little airport is still holding it's own on the international front..Our domestic services sure could use alot more attention though.....

For the first 10 or 11 months, MX' loads were not very good but over the summer, and with the new schedule, the lf jumped to over 90%. It seems to have slipped a bit in September but with the addition of a 5th weekly flight, it looks like they anticipate strong performance. LH is still having loads in 85-95% range from April through September. Not sure what the loads are on NW but I am guessing they are OK. Good news for PDX

Very good news for PDX and MEXICANA!

Last August I flew MX and jumpseat in A320. I ask the crew how was PDX doing and if it was true or not MX was closing PDX and crew answer back telling me that according to the CEO's internal monthly report PDX was doing ok!

Good to see they're going 5X now!

Can't wait to see FAT in the route map!

On this site I just don't know who or what to believe anymore..For the longest it's been doom and gloom about all of the new international services out of PDX..I'll just stick with the official announcements made by the Port of Portland or the Portland business Journal......
