Magnicharters All First Class

Fri Oct 22, 2004 12:37 pm

Starting at the end of October, Magnicharters will be flying three times a day MTY-MEX-MTY on a 737-200 XA-MAD in an all first class configuration. The plane only has 68 first class seats, J class seat pitch, gourmet food and free bar with top-notch drinks, such as Grey Gosse vodka. About $2,800 pesos roundtrip plus taxes. There are no charges for schedule changes or cancellations

This is an interesting experiment. But it reminds me of that "Legend Airlines" up at Love Field that went bust. I also don't understand why they chose one of their 200's instead of their 300.

Anyway competition is really heating up here in MTY. Last time I had to go to TAM I had to pay $5,500 pesos on Aerolitoral. Now Aviacsa has taken up the route, we'll see how AM reacts.

Is a fare war looming? Do we finally have a civil aviation state policy in Mexico?

Hard to say about how successful the experiment with an all J/F class will go; of course we wish them the greatest luck but I take the effort with a grain of salt...

In a related issue, I saw one of their posters advertising the new configuration, funny (and somewhat reckless by their marketing/media agency) that they mentioned something like "todo el avión es clase Premier", when we all know Clase Premier is a brand owned by AeroMexico.

They better get rid of their slogan:

"La Aerolinea Turistica de Mexico"

or they won't get the business people they want for this route!

Fly727,

I have not seen that add though I live in MTY.
However, I do not see it recless by their marketing agency. I see it in the line of Sir Richard Branson tag.

BTW, Let''se see how the market at MTY splits at the end of the year.
Current figures of weekly operations out of MTY:

Aerolitoral 223 ops (30%)
Aviacsa 197 ops (26%)
Aeromexico 96 ops (13%)
Mexicana 56 ops (7%)
Continental 48 ops (6%)

JR, ZE, QA, VW, AA and DL have 134 ops or 17%

Total commercial ops: 754
or 108 daily flights.

I think this new Magnicharters VIP concept for the mexican market will be for good!

Interesting stats Bhutan guy! Was wondering... could you please share your stats (in case you have them) for MTY in terms of seats offered by each airline?

Ghost,

I do have them, but they are rather old (1year). If you are still interested, send me an email.

Re: Magnicharters VIP

I have just seen the add and I am astonished by taxes that plane tickets include.

Their return fare is MXP 1.376 or USD 122 (not expensive being an all Business Class configuration)

However, after you add all taxes, you have to pay MXP 2.617 or USD 233. Twice the original fare!!!!!!!!

Is there a mistake? Please tell me so.

Taken from their disclaimer:

Taxes to add in return trip:

IVA $206,40
TUA $345
Seguro Aéreo $115
Fuel Fee $575

Although it is quite deceiving to state a fare and than after further investigation find out all the (hidden) surcharges, a $233 r/t fare is not bad considering the current fares charged. Also, keep in mind that supposedly this is for business class service. I flew MEX/MTY a couple of months ago and paid over $400 for a one-hour flight!!

I'm not sure if it is actually deceiving, since by law all publicity has to state the fare and then add the phrase "plus taxes". Oh well, I will not be able to try it anyway, since as a state government official I'm barred from travelling in anything but Y.
