Tampa Airlines On 'Clinton's List?'

Fri Oct 22, 2004 11:54 pm

Following the example of AeroContinente there are increasing rumors from the DEA and US and Dutch State Department personnel that QT is considered for the Clinton's List. It appears rather unlikely considering QT's relatively good security infrastructure. Any thoughts?

Considering the source it seems rather unlikely that this is a gossip to discredit Colombia. On the other hand, as indicated, it seems strange to me as QT seems to have a professional security infrastructure and a long standing professional relationship with the relevant authorities.

There are certain people in TAMPAs roster that are not granted visas to enter the US. That has to be taken with a grain of salt, as just because someone knows someone that knows someone that is involved in the the narco trade that knows you is enough to be denied a visa. Does that mean these people are dirty? I don't think so, unless direct proof can be offered. Additionally, TAMPA's security here at MIA is quite formidable. And the other side of that, if someone is determined to sneak something in, they will.

Bongo,

I am not in a position to mention the source but can reveal that it is a high-level diplomat within the Dutch Foreign Ministry who explicitly stated the combination of QT with the Clinton List. As expressed before I found then and still find now the issue difficult to believe considering QT's infrastructure. Nevertheless, this person is not someone to mention such a thing lightheartedly. Perhaps a high level QT staff member of shareholder is under investigation? Or perhaps nothing at all.

BTW, I agree with earlier statements that QT is a professional company with a solid security set-up.

Tampa had a bad time in the 80s when some people sneaked into their warehouses at night (when their security wasn't so good) and put a cocaine package which got to Miami. They changed one of the normal cargo boxes for 450 kilos of cocaine. The plane where that package was found was stopped for three months, Jorge Coulson, Tampa's CEO in that moment had to sue the USA's ambassador in Colombia and even the very USA's customs, because they had left him in a limbo, and were not only getting Tampa into problems, but also were saying he was guilty.

In 1983 the Colombian Customs made an analysis of all the planes operating in Colombia aiming to stop any plane which had any kind of relationship with the Mafia, Tampa's planes had all the papers in order, but between Avianca, Tampa, Aces and the little airlines had like 60 planes with trouble, which meant that almost the whole Colombian air industry had to be stopped, then Tampa had a reunion with the customs to fix all problems they could have in advance, but this remedy proved to be worse than the illness because he had some planes in maintenance whose papers had just expired but he managed to fly them out and in of Colombia twice but then the custom's people said he had failed deliberately to do his duty (regarding papers), and grounded all Tampa's planes but one.

Besides these two incidents, of which Tampa got out clean, they've NEVER had any kind of legal problem, and I honestly don't think they have it now, in fact, Tampa has helped to improve security in US' Airports... here's the story:

In that years I mention, the early 80s, there was no such a thing as a device to help detecting drugs, so Tampa proposed the USA's Customs to accept a deal, stop fighting and better help each other, the customs accepted.
All the demands were retired and Tampa began talks to X-Ray's companies to see if they could make a machine Tampa designed. Tampa proposed the USA's customs to change all the fines for the machines they designed and installed, and so was it, Tampa was the first freighter line to make this kind of security proceedings regarding Aereal cargo transport, which they keep doing and improving.

It's a list of companies that allegedly have ties to drug organizations. When a company is on clinton list, no US citizen or entity can legally make any kind of transaction with that company, and their bank accounts and goods in the US are frozen.

Former President Clinton increased the list and gave it a high importance, but as far as I know this list exist years before Mr. Clinton became President
