If Continental had a hub at DFW with nonstop flights I would always fly them, unfortunantely good things take time.

It's either aliens or Bush.

No seriously, it's nothing. Every time a few incidents happen in relatively close sequence, people yap about how there seem to be a high number of incidents.

This has already been discussed. Accidents happen on a daily basis. It takes a somewhat larger accident or two involving commercial aircraft before it gains mainstream attention. At that point, it becomes the media's "topic of the month" and you hear about every little incident. The special attention will soon fade but the accidents will continue to happen almost daily across the nation and around the globe.

It was your topic when yours was the only post. It's not anymore - you're just one of many, and I'm going to ignore your new question because there's been plenty said about it - look it up on Google news.

As for your original question:

http://www.ntsb.gov/aviation/Table1.htm

That's the table of accidents in the US last year. 1,864 total accidents, and that's just in one country. If every one of them were reported here, you'd have almost nothing but posts about current accidents, mixed in with some posts about past accidents.

Lately we've seen some people going off about BREAKING NEWS regarding one of the many general aviation accidents that happen every year around the world, and this has mixed in with continuing discussion about the Halifax 747 crash, the CRJ crash and the Jetstream 32 crash. But I'm confident that when the final year-end statistics come out, they'll look pretty much just like the table linked above.

Again, as I have said before, there are about 5-10 aircraft incidents/accidents every day in the USA.

Please see here: http://www.ntsb.gov/ntsb/AccList.asp?month=8&year=2004

This is for the month of August, 2004. As you can see, there are many incidents everyday, you just don't here about them.

Personally I think it is no different than any other week, just so happens that the incidents are in a major western country so get coverage left, right and centre.

A good example was 9/11 and the downing of 2 Russian jets at the same time a few months ago.
We were saturated with news coverage of the events surounding 9/11 for weeks on end, but the situation in Russia only made the news for a few days.

No disrespect to the people who lost there lives but the media controls what we see on the news programmes and a tragedy in New York is going to be more newsworthy than a tragedy in Moscow, Sad but true.

Another event to compare is the downing of Pan Am 103 by terrorists and the downing of an Iran Air A300 by the US Navy. Guess which one made the news for longer.

Another indicator may well be the fact that most of the members of Airliners.Net are from the major western countries.
Flying may not be all plain sailing, but the fun of it is worth the price.

All the accidents just mean that the airlines are coming back to full capacity again. More people, more usage, MORE accidents.
