PP-BSE Is Dead...

Sun Oct 24, 2004 8:16 am

Today, while starting her take-off roll on another cargo flight out from Manaus, PP-BSE sustained heavy damage due the RH MLG leg rupturing through the wing(!)

This veteran is sadly most probably a write-off, and for those not aware, this particular 707 is (was) the record holder for flight hours, with more than 100.000 hours logged.

I was lucky enough to have a jump seat ride on her, a few months ago, between POA and GRU.

Some images made after the accident, at Manaus:

Best regards

What is the estimated cost per hour to operate that bird? Imagine that number multiplied by over 100,000. wow  Smile

Renato,,,did you write an article for Airliners magazine about that trip? If so I read it and it was very good. My compliments.

LMAO, or a DL 73S...remember some of those 737's came from Western, so they must have a few hours on them, lol

Sad to see such a great aircraft going... Does anybody know how many hours PP-BSE exactly reached?

I don't know if there's any other 707 with a similar high number of hours on the clock, but there were many other jets which already exceeded the 100 000hrs mark. At least 8 of NWs active DC-10s have reached that mark and DAS Air Cargo's 5X-JOE already had 100 000 hrs in 1997! Perhaps that's the candidate.

ah great, I wanted to get some pictures for my collection of that one when I go to Brazil. That's the only one with the big 'Grupo GPT' titles isn't it? To me looks better than how the rest of the fleet is painted.

So had this had happened on landing, could it have been more serious?

You just gotta love those old 707s! noisy, smoky, sleek! But I have a feeling those Brazilian 707s won't be around much longer..
