WN 737 @ BUR Written Off

Wed Mar 08, 2000 4:18 am

I was browsing through rec.travel.air, and there were some reports that N668SW was indeed written off. Anybody have the offical reoprt?

I'd venture to say that it's too early to tell. The post you saw was probably bogus.

I thought that Herb Keheller said on CNN that it is possible that N668SW would be a total loss. From looking at the aircraft in it's present state.

Don't Have The Report, But Here's My View

The aicraft's landing gear would have to be totally replaced, the engines either replaced or repaired, the fuselage would need heavy repairs, esp. to it's underside, and the wings would have to be (I'm not sure what the technical name is) re-attached, though they're already attached they'd have to make sure they weren't about to fall off. I think, esp. with the new 737s coming in, that it would be much easier for Southwest to get rid of it.

Herb said it was a loss. The fuselage is cracked as well as the number 2 engine being destroyed (fence inside) and both wings being out of it.
