I would guess that it would be after they recieve the new A345s. Don't know when that is supposed to be. Does anyone here know? Also, are they going to do LAX non-stop too, or just keep with the 1 stop 744s?

A nonstop would have to be after they receive the A345s, since they don't have any other type of plane that could fly that far. But I take the whole thing with a grain of salt...TG has been talking big about flying to NYC for years. At one time (early/mid 90s, I believe) it was to be via CDG, later the plan was to go via FRA (due to their Star membership). I heard more recently that they were thinking about a 1-stop flight via NRT as a stopgap until the A345s arrive, but obviously not one of these schemes has ever come to fruition, so I remain skeptical!

But I think this time the chances a better that it comes true. TG ordered these expensive A345 and three of them are delivered next year. So they have to do something with them. And I don't think that they will under-utilize them on an Europena or Australian route.

A BKK-NYC non-stop would cross almost right over North Pole is using Great Circle. However, it is not possible to take this route, having to fly considerably south.

So, it seems that flying all accross Siberia and north Europe would seem more fuel and distance wise than doing it over the Pacific.

TG is starting non-stop service to SFO as well as JFK. I believe it is 3x weekly for both, but I may be wrong. I was wondering the start date as well. I hope it is soon, as I love TG's colors.

Remembering former discussions I think to remember that people expected that TG gets 3 A345 and that they will use them for 6-times weekly to NYC and 3-times to SFO. LAX will be served via KIX with their new A346 and maybe with more than the current 4-times weekly frequency.

The first TG A345 should be delivered in 1Q 2005.
It will most likely go on some pilot-training and short-haul runs within Asia before long-haul introduction maybe at the start of summer schedule.
TG has expressed interest in service to NYC, ORD, SFO, and LAX and all those destinations can't be served with just three A345.
We'll just all have to wait and see.

TG should instead look into flying nonstop to EWR than JFK because there is more STAR ALLIANCE feed (UAL-US AIR) out of EWR than there is out of JFK !!!

Plus cheaper slots available at EWR  Smile

I doubt TG would fly to EWR in order to pickup CLT, and PIT feed.

One shoudn't readily believe press announcements churned out by TG. Over the past couple of years, they have become well known to easily take their own dreams for reality. About a year ago, TG came up with big plans to serve South Africa (coinciding with SAA's withdrawal from the BKK-JNB route) and nothing's been heard about it since. The retrofitting of the aircraft interiors with a long overdue new premium product is another example. So, as far as these A345s and their projected routes go, whether they be EWR, SFO, ORD or IAD, I'll believe it when I see it...
