Arabic Speakers: Help Needed On Qatar Airways!

Tue Oct 26, 2004 5:32 pm

After having received a lot of help last time, I would like to kindly ask again some Arabic speaking members to help me in translating some names on Qatar Airways/Qatar Amiri Flight aircraft. I searched the database and found some more pictures where the small writings below the cockpit windows can be read (best view in large version).

Here are the birds I need:

A7-ABW is Al-Ruwaiss

A7-AAF looks like Al-Sad?

A7-CJA Al Halal

A7-ADF looks like Al Wakbar

A7-ACA looks like Al Wajiba

A7-ACE is kind of far can't read it...

A7-ACH is Al Maqjar

A7-AFL is Al Maseela

A7-AFN is too far...maybe Al Wokra?

A7-AFO is Al-Ghareeya

Beautiful planes, wonder what a 777 would look like in their colours.

Needless to say, I would definitely like to fly on one of these some day. Beautifully kept aircraft...nice colour scheme also.

A7-ACE also can be Al-Dakhira or Al-Zakhira. BTW are those the names given to the a/c?

Hi Sayem,

Al-Dakhira makes sense for A7-ACE, I found such a city/location in Qatar on Google.

Yes, these are names given to Qatar Airways and Amiri Flight aircraft. Most are names of cities, ports or forts. But they also have names such as Al-Shaab ("the people"), e.g. found on A7-ABN.

I checked all of the above the names on Google and could identify some places in Qatar. However, I couldn't find anything for the following:

- Al Halal
- Al Wakbar
- Al Maqjar
- Al Wakra or Al Wokra
- Al-Ghareeya

Can anyone tell me the meaning? Probably not places in Qatar but other meanings?

Thanks
Udo

"Al-Halal" can also means "pure", in a religious way.

Concerning A7-ACE, it's not clear on the picture :

The 3 last letters can be "BRA" or "IRA" : برة or يرة

The first part can be "Al-Dah---" or "Al-Dakh---"

I would say : الدحبرة or الدحيرة
