Flying With Sprained Ankles And With Crutches?

Wed Oct 27, 2004 11:56 pm

I was walking home last night when, low and behold, a kitten entered the road beside which I was walking, so, without hesitation, I jumped into the road to rescue it. But then I was hit by an on-coming car, the result of which was a visit to the hospital and, sadly, two very badly sprained ankles. Well, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.  Wink/being sarcastic  Laugh out loud I now can't walk that well and need crutches. I have 15 FR flights in November, so I'm wondering whether I'll be able to still travel. Does anyone know? I wanted to ask here before phoning them. Cheers!

While not on FR, I did take crutches onto a FL flight once when I had to travel home from college to have my knee worked on. The flight crew was more than accomodating, security worked with me (pre-TSA in the states) and the gate crews were also quite swell about it. Overall, no problems except when another pax opened the overhead bin, one of the crutches fell out and knocked me in the head.
United 717 heavy, you're facing the wrong way. Any chance you can powerback to get off of my deice pad?

But I must admit that I admire you for doing it. But now you have to pay a fortune if you want to fly FR  Big grin
They probably charge you for the croches Big grin

James - are you sure it wasn't a small golden-haired child in danger of being mown down by a runaway horse and cart ? The fluffy kitten story stretches credulity to its utmost !!

I hope you're OK, anyway (no matter how your injuries were REALLY caused *cough*scruffystudentlayaboutdrunkagain*cough*). If you were travelling on any other airline than FR (this is not a dig, BTW), I'd say just phone them up, have them put a meet-and-assist/wheelchair WCHS request in the booking, indicating limited mobility, and that would be that. Nice people would meet you at check-in and wheel you/transport you in a golf-cart wherever you need to be. HOWEVER, I don't know if you can do that on FR, and if you do, Mr O'Leary might want to charge you extra, who knows.

Are you making any tightish connections that might be put in jeopardy if you have to hobble from gate to gate unassisted ? Likewise, how much luggage will you be taking - crutches and luggage are not a good combination if you're by yourself. I guess if worst comes to worst, the least you can expect is to be pre-boarded to allow you to find a seat and get settled. No front or exit rows for limited mobility though !

So you see, let that be a lesson to you. If you'd have flown proper airlines in the past, you'd be too poor to afford to get pissed to rescue poor homeless kittens, and this wouldn't have happened !  Smile/happy/getting dizzy Get well soon !

LOL.  Wink/being sarcastic

Well, my connections will be about 3 hours (normally fine) so it should be OK. I won't have any luggage, bar my small backpack, so that should be all right.

Guess I'll have to phone 'em up then!

Cheers.

I was walking home last night when, low and behold, a kitten entered the road beside which I was walking, so, without hesitation, I jumped into the road to rescue it.

It is funny that I read the topic, wanted to post something and saw that many others were before me. Here my message again:

Mr James Pe@rson! If you lie, do it more convincingly.. it is not good to do stupid things with girls while you are drunk and then saying you wanted to rescue a small kitten.. no one here believes you.. I would love to see the video how she slapped you and taught you a lesson! What does your fiancee say about that? Did you tell her the same story of the kitten and the car??  Big thumbs up

Too bad FR doesn't offer refund and has soooo less legroom..

To the topic.. shouldn't be a problem - many injured travel. Otherwise, check your credit card company whether they offer an insurance for injury before travel. Mine (HSBC) does, so they might refund you..

Or sue FR for tax back  Big thumbs up
Pearson, Pe@rson, one day..

My bet is he was out luring 12-year-olds into his car with sweeties, when one of them hit him, and he fell out of the car into the traffic hehe ! Either that or he jumped off the wardrobe dressed in his Superman outfit and missed the bed.

James, James, James, what have you been up to!!!?  Laugh out loud

I could lend you the Zimmer Frame which you like to make out I am old enough to own. Of course, in your beloved FR's style I'd charge you for it's use!  Wink/being sarcastic

What's all this claptrap about a fluffy kitten? You could have disguised the real reason (seedy and illegal, no doubt) by using a vaguely plausable excuse such as slipping on leaves on the pavement. You might have even got a hint of sympathy............hmmm........well...........perhaps not!

Seriously, hope you are on the mend soon mate and that there is no lasting damage, though I have to agree with others that this is the funniest thing I've heard all day!!  Laugh out loud  Laugh out loud Sorry!!

Er, sorry to be boring here and sticking to the topic, but you should be fine with crutches. Now, if you were on a long haul flight with your ankles in plaster, that'd be a different story (swelling ankles).

Reminds me... time to crack open the beer!

Sorry, Kazi and Pe@rson.. I could not leave it to open an airwhiners thread about you two.. You know, I am the master-hook-up (I even once tried to hook up a girl with a friend of mine and was hooked up myself in the end.. Big grin )

I have never seen James nor you, but somehow - let's give it a try - look on airwhiners Big grin

Welcome to the club, James, I'm in my 5th week with those ugly crutches... But wait, you said two sprained ankle... even with crutches, how can you walk ??? Anyway, be very careful about wet floors !
You might be charged for a wheelchair, sadly. The only "good" thing is that you will be allowed to board first... By the way, I'm wondering if it is possible and safe to fly with a plastered ankle (I didn't ask at the hospital because I have no flight planned for the next weeks).

I'm free and single now! So your girlfriend is gone ? Poor James ! But what about your christmas' gift flight to RIX then ? Big grin

Ok, I should go to bed instead of writing stupid things !

Take care !

LOL thanks for your offer, Daz and James.  Wink/being sarcastic If I bring my crutches, we'll get priority boarding.  Wink/being sarcastic

"But wait, you said two sprained ankle... even with crutches, how can you walk ???"

Exactly! So I'm putting pressure on one foot in favour of the other. Seems silly, but hey.

Capital - just because you're 45 doesn't mean you yet require a zimmer frame. Don't be so harsh on yourself!  Laugh out loud

And I'll have you know, Mr N, that I was asked out yesterday for dinner with a mighty fine young lass on my course and also, today, invited by another girl I know for drinks with her on Saturday night. Now that's quite good.  Wink/being sarcastic I never have had a problem getting girls.

Getting them never really (they always claim tb not interested, but actually they desire us more than we do them Big grin ) .. 'maintaining' them is a different issue..  Big thumbs up

Haha you're a cheeky little swine.  Wink/being sarcastic LOL. Nah, maintaining them is normally quite easy, unless you, after a long time, start not to bother and have a 'couldn't careless' attitude. Most of my relationships have been 1.5+ years plus, which is good. But now I'm just after lots of unconditional, no-strings-attached fun.  Wink/being sarcastic Anyway, enough of this: let's get back to the actual stuff.

OK, you can continue this at

http://www.airwhiners.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=133

By the way, now you could make use of teh wheelchair charges other pax pay for you at FR.. since you will be 1st to be seated, you could sit at the emergency exit seats (does FR have some like these or are the emergency exits blocked with additional seats to accomodate 10 more pax  Big thumbs up ), or in the 1st row..

You really do need to grow-up - and fast.  Smile I have no desire to have a relationship with some big-boned, loud-mouthed teenager who's as funny as a dead donkey; I'd rather be celibate. But the occasional blowjob and full-sex, so long as I could hide her face with a black bag, would be OK. After all, seeing flab bounce around and those ready-to-pop red spots... well, it just turns you off.
