Air Transat (TS)?

Hi everyone,

I am wondering if anyone knows or ever flew Air Transat to or from Canada?
How are the seats, service and food?

Anybody knows? Are they worth flying with?

It's a charter, so you can't expect it to be great. I've heard mixed reviews about them. Some say the legroom is unbearable for flights over 3 hours. Some don't mind them at all and appreciate their low fares to European destinations.

I've also heard that their A330s are much more comfortable than their A310s.

Their A330-300 has the same number of seats as the A330-200 so the -300s are a bit roomier by what I understand. Like the other post above the reviews are mixed on service and comfort. It is afterall a low cost carrier and charter operator.

I've flown to/from the UK on both the A310 and the B757. Both flights were OK, nothing special. Legroom was a bit tight for me on both. I'm about 6 feet.

Oh I am the WRONG guy to ask....PAY THE EXTRA MONEY AND FLY ANOTHER CARRIER!!! If you MUST fly TS, upgrade to Club Class.

It's virtually impossible to find out what the seat pitch is on their planes --- believe me I've looked. What's the minimum? 28"? Roominess? Forget it.

I've flown on TS few times, usually to Mexico from Toronto and every time I get off the plane, I vow to never do it again. I find their f/a crew to be miserable, despite my best efforts to get them to crack a smile. I'm also not the only one who's noticed the F/As have a habit of serving the meal as soon as they're airborne and then disappear for the rest of the flight.

Their customer service attitude on the ground is equally poor. I've actually had an agent say to me once "Hey, you get what you pay for!" after I looked disappointed with one of her answers. (I guess she had a point though).

Good points (in an attempt to be fair)
1. Their new logo is nice.
2. The pasta they served me last time was pretty decent.
3. Gotta give Captain Piche credit for landing the leaky 330 in the Azores.

I flew with Air Transat from Montreal to Puerto Vallarta last February. The aircraft was an Airbus A310 and since we were assigned seats near the emergency exit, our legs did not ache during the 4 hour flight. I do recall however that the cabin was very dense with passengers so I can only imagine what the other passengers went thorough.

That flight was my first charter flight experience and since I travel regularly on major, scheduled carriers, I noticed that the Air Transat service was sub-standard. HOWEVER, since we paid C $ 1,100 for a one-week, all inclusive package (air fare, hotel, 3-daily means, and transportation), I couldnt care less whether the flight attendant smiled or whether my legs were cramped on another seat. The bottom line is that is it is GREAT value for money and I would certainly fly Air Transat again..........speaking of which....getting a bit nostalgic thinking of beautiful Puerto Vallarta  Big grin

Is the Transat L-1011 still in the fleet or is this stored?

I wonder what kind of pilots they hire? Their English is good at time and sometimes you can definetely tell that they are foreigners. And is staying as a charter that viable for business?

TS is fine. I'm 6-2 and 199# and I was comfortable. So no one shorter than me should be complaining about seat pitch. The FA's were fine.

TS service is comparable with AC economy class. There you go.

I dumped at the gybe mark in strong winds when I looked up at a Porter Q400 on finals. Can't stop spotting.

They're probably not foreigners but rather French Canadian pilots who have an accent.

I flew them YVR-Cancun and it was good. The service was great and the food and in flight ent was ok. We went on the old L1011 and what a great aircraft

Is it true that they buy a/c's from military service and therefore the noise in the cabin's are not so reduced as in pre-ordered passenger a/c.?
This is what someone told me.......

There is no truth to that story at all, Air Transat uses civilian aircraft, A310 & A330.

I've flown Air Transat MAN - YYZ on 2 occasions.First time was on a 757 and the last time was one of their L1011's. The service was as good as can be expected although at only 5ft 9" my arse and legs were killing me only 2 hours into the flight, and i pretty much ran a marathon pacing up and down the single aisle of the 757. The tristar was shabby inside, altho i remember having slightly more leg room. I deliberatly chose the flight to get to fly on an L1011 too, and i wasn't disappointed....just surprised when the whole aircraft shook and shuddered upon takeoff. Their fares are pretty reasonable and i found their staff to be pretty friendly, my mum just flew on one of their A310's although she didn't remember anything else because she's scared of flying. I don't remember what the food was like, but then again i used to be an airline caterer so i'm not too keen on airline food to begin with.

I flew the A330-300 to Florida, I would hate to think how bad the legroom on the A330-200 would be for a transatlantic flight. Sure, the price may be a bit lower, but never in most cases drastically lower than scheduled airlines. They are fine for a flight to the Caribbean or Florida though. The seat pitch on the L1011 was pretty good, too bad they're gone.

Ktachiya, Quebec is still part of Canada unless you got the results mixed up from 1995  Big grin
