Every Airport To Have Own LCC Soon!

Thu Oct 28, 2004 4:18 am

With the rate of growth at which LCC in the UK are expanding, will we see in the future every airport which can handle B737/A320 with it's own LCC based there.

Every big enough airport served by a LCC maybe, but not each have its own base. Too many airports for that. If that happened, every airline would compete with at least one other on UK routes - something which doesn't happen too often with LCCs competing on exactly the same route.

Oh well. It would be great for all us fans who live near smaller airports that have few flights to see lcc arriving and offering cheap travel.
Glad that Thompson have arrived at BOH

What are you talking about with your thread title? Every airport to in the UK that can handle a 737 will have its own LCC BASED there?! You may have forgotten about a little thing called demand.

Sorry, I'll make it a bit clearer. Each airport will have a LCC that fly's there more than others. i.e. Bournemouth-ryanair and aberdeen- easyjet

I disagree.

Many airports are high-yield business markets where in the segmented European aviation sector there is no place for an LCC. I don't think you'll ever see a true LCC operating out of Heathrow.

Since there's already 2 airports in london, I think they should make yet another. They should consolidate the international airlines/routes into one HUGE international terminal. Than they can use what's left (and maybe add onto) of the other london airport, and make it the domestic/regional terminal(s). More and more planes are flying into London's Gatwik, and customs lines are already hours and hours long!

I find that LGW is much nicer to fly out of than LHR. When I flew EZY the check in to gate was smooth with no queues but I can image on long haul departures it's a different story at LGW.

1 Heathrow
2 Gatwick
3 Luton
4 Stansted
5 City

T5 at LHR is the closest youll get to one HUGE international terminal. Never with the runway situation would LHR be able to handle all the LGW international traffic without losing significant other ops.

I don't think you'll ever see a true LCC operating out of Heathrow.

Virgin Express did it. They operated from LHR to BRU for some time, but eventually ditched the route.

Heathrow isn't really suited to LCC operation and Eurostar also helped kill it off.
