Ntsb Releases Report On 2001 AA Crash

Thu Oct 28, 2004 8:26 am

The National Transportation Safety Board said the 2001 American Airlines crash was caused by the co-pilot pressing on the plane's rudder pedals seconds after the aircraft took off. The board said the tactic -- in which American trained some of its pilots -- was too aggressive and caused the tail of the Airbus A300-600 to break. The NTSB has asked jetmakers to provide better rudder training to pilots. It has also called for an FAA review of the rudder design of the Airbus A300-600 and the A310, noting that the design may be too sensitive.
