1000 Airbus in North America. Who would have thought of that in October 1974? Does NW have the largest Airbus fleet out of any North American carrier?

Not only the largest in N.A. but now in the world. How fitting the 1000th in N.A. go to the airline with the largest amount of buses

Burnsie28, at least according to Airbus, NW does not have the largest Airbus fleet in the world - Air France does: currently, they operate 165 Airbus planes, while Northwest has 160 (ok, actualy at least 162, because Airbus still lists 4 A330-200s for NW)...

The next places are occupied by United (152), Lufthansa (137), Air Canada (132) and US Airways (127), with Iberia just under 100 at 98 planes.

This is according to Airbus' "Orders & Deliveries" spreadsheet dated 30 September 2004.

Would they actually move about the delivery positions to make their 1000th North American Airbus a prestigious A-330 to a prestigious client instead of an ordinary low key leased USA 3000 A-320 for instance ?

The biggest airline which operates Airbus, perhaps, but they've only got 34 of them.

AlitaliaMD11, if you just scroll back up to reply #4, you'll see that I listed the number of planes operated by NWA (and a few other airlines),

NW gets more A319s next year and a few more A330-200s, so they will be the largest operator.

And of course, NW's A319 fleet will likely get quite a bit larger if their plan on the slow phaseout of their DC-9 fleet continues (more A319's for mainline, and more flying by Mesaba (Northwest AirLink) taking over many routes now flown by their D9 fleet).

As soon as WN gets rid of their 737s. That is the answer to what this response will become

American Airlines is the largest operater of the Airbus 300 in the world with 34 of them. At one point, they were also the largest operater of the Fokker 100 with 75 examples, I believe.

Actually, that would be FedEx, with 44. Will be UPS quite soon, they've already got about 40, and have total orders for 90.

Sorry Scorpio...

My information is obviously outdated! Well...at one point they were the largest operator!

Nw is not going to get rid of those dc-9s,,,they are paid for and turn pure profit....there good to go for several more years till this fuel crunch levels out.

I would figure Fed-ex has got to have by now a substantial amount of airbus aircraft. 1 out of 4 planes landing in mem is fed...1 out of 2 is nw...
