The additional flights will be redeye departures from Vienna and shall operate on Sundays and Wednesdays beginning January. The flights will be operated by a mix of Airbus 330-200 and Airbus 340-200 aircraft.

And an excellent choice between Europe and India indeed! I am a big fan of OS's inflight product, and it comes as no surprise that they're doing so well in India and other Asian emerging markets. Too bad they will deploy NG's B763s on the new BOM route. This product in not consistent with the regular OS service on the A332/342/343 and even the NG B772, and is in dire need of an upgrade.

HB-IWC:
The decision for a new C-class will be made in december. And the B767 will be the first a/c to be refurbished as OS has realized that they need a change. Thereafter the other longhaul a/c will be rebuild. The seat choices which were on display at the OS-headquarters two months ago were quite promising....

Santhosh

The air transport movement between different countries is governed by what are known as bilaterals. While some countries allow airlines of select other countries unrestricted access in terms of flights / aircraft type / routes etc. others (including India) are more restrictive and allow only a set number of services, seats and destinations between their country and some others.

India has followed a policy of limited open skies for a few years now whereby during the winter months, airlines are given unrestricted access in terms of capacity and frequency of operations into any city in India. (These are only restricted by slot constraints i.e. if the requested times exceed the maximum number of take-offs or landings that can be handled within say an hour). This freedom given to international airlines to operate as many flights as they want with whichever type of aircraft they choose to is called the open sky policy.

Hope I have clarified.

Great explanation Vimanav!

The one thing I'd add is that the one restriction for Winter Open Skies has to dw with new services. For example, BA curently operate from LHR to BOM, MAA, DEL and CCU. They're free to add as many frequencies on these 4 routes as they wish, so long as the slots are available. They can't, however, add an LHR-AMD service unser this policy. Also, an airline that does not already serve an India route can't simply start flying just for the winter.

And we should not forget that slot constrained airports can really limit the open sky ;;

NO !

I had FF status but after some very bad experiences (unfriedly crews, dirty planes, flightcancellations after boarding!, overcrowded and unattractive mainhub and more) I switched to competitors and refuse to fly them nowadays.

OS is OK. But they have the the worst looking cabin crew. The female flight attendants are completely dressed in a screaming red. From the shoes to the skirts, even the stockings. I never saw that an awful 'color scheme' for flight attendants.
