Lizard Found In Jet Airways Food

Fri Oct 29, 2004 11:54 am

Topic says it all...

Sharma said here that he had ordered non-vegetarian meal that included biryani.

"On opening the packet I was shocked to find a dead baby lizard in the biryani. I immediately informed the crew members," he said.

The crew reportedly tried to pacify the passengers by offering them bread and skimmed milk for dinner. Sharma said they refused to eat anything.

Dude, next time order the Kosher meal! At least it has to answer to a higher authority. Lizard does a body good. I didn't know they had "Fear Factor" in India. Write or email the airline and demand they offer crickets. They crunch when you eat em and they got protein too. BTW, maybe that baby lizard misconnected and was someone's pet.  Nuts

I think this is the not the lizard per se. Article is referring to geckoes which indeed can be poisonous when consumed.

Indian newspapers regularly publish news about gecko falling into a bucket or vessel in mass food preparation and people getting severly ill eating it.

That little thang is a TV star in the USA for auto insurance! Poisonous?

You'all got no business sense! I say fry em. Dice em, fondue them. Just think, this may just get some of our legacy carriers over the hump.

I have found human hair, (yes hair!!) in various meals on various domestic carriers in the past 10 years. In all cases my meal was replaced and apologies were given. Finito.

When you have an operation of this scale some slip-ups are bound to happen. The bigger question is how often do such slip-ups happen at 9W.

Overall, 9W is the one of the best airlines; THE airline for Indias babalog! It has raised the standard of domestic aviaiton by forcing competing airlines to pull up their socks as well.

This slip-up is one in a million kind of a case. And I am sure that 9W would take remedial action.

Ewwww!!!!!!!!!! That's REALLY gross!!! Yea- does anyone know who the catering company was?

I think the main caterer for India is "AviaPartner" or something. You can look up more information on http://www.airlinemeals.net. AirlineMeals.Net is kind of like the A.Net of airline meals/food.

You know, I never understood what the deal is with this. Unless Mrs or Mr Jain ended up eating it, what's the fuss all about?

If I found a lizard in my food, it would be a vast improvement on most. I am sure we have all had the noodles; well noodle because the whole lot are stuck together and if you are now given plastic knives (variable) the only chance to eat is to pull it apart with your partner who hopefully has got strong arms.

The guy was last seen running towards court with the offending food packet in his hand. My Dad got a roach in the food (on IC J/cl).

The most amusing one was a very dignified looking Tamilian (with chandanam on forehead) on an LH flight FRA-MAA sitting next to me in J/cl repeatedly reminding crew that he was vegetarian. When meal service started, guess what was served to him for starters.. (with full assurances that it was veg!!)... hey presto - Shrimp cocktails. Man, was the turbulence bad!!!!

Also had another incident on SK AMS-CPH where a fellow Indian passenger nearby got a piece of glass in his meal. Shit hit the fan.

End of the day I feel that airlines do their very best to ensure quality control especially for meals as they know the murderous negative publicity that something like this will attract. But they really can't check each meal. And slip ups will happen after every million meals or so (give and take a thousand).

P.S. Gecko flesh raw is not poisonous but boiled/cooked it can be fatal.

Jet Airways is an excellent airline with very good food. I flew then several times in dEC/JAN and was very impressed. I was always thinking how nice it would be to have such an airline like that in the us: very good service, genuine smiles, brand new planes, EXCELLENT FOOD. I remember seing the singapore airlines logo on the plastic covering the food, so i guess it was their catering company offering the meals.
I guess i was impressed because I use to get food, desert and candy in very flight regardless of the lenght when here in the US we get nothing.
Hair, finger tips, roaches...all those fall in food in restaurants, canned food, and i guess, airline food. oh well..more protein

These kinds of things happen sometimes,Not only to 9W but for other carriers as well. Well these catering companyes cook thousands of packets of a food a day. With such high rate of production it not surprising that one out of a million food packets might have something wrong. So I don’t think its a big issue and moreover Jet has got a good feed back from its PAX generally.

Happy Landings :)

Please correct me if I am wrong.

Sometime ago a similar and worst case happened in a Qantas(?????) flight with a lady who find a frog in her salad.

Does anybody remember that thread here?

First of all lizards is not an Indian delicacy hahahahahahah. For some people maybe hmmmmmmmm.

I think Mr. Sharma is the classic attention seeker. I admit having something like that in my food would take my hunger away in a flash. I probably wouldn’t eat any other food they gave me. But ....”I have brought it with me to highlight this in the media” for gods sake!!!!

Make a fuss, make a huge fuss (quietly), and demand a free flight or whatever. But why’s he acting like 9W was out to kill him? I sympathize with him; don’t get me wrong I do. Lizard in food yeachhhhh but what’s his hang up!! It seems like he’s getting more kicks out of the media than anything.

I think Mr. Sharma is the classic attention seeker.

Its a "what can I gain out of this" mentality.
