B6's Next City

Mon Nov 01, 2004 4:25 am

Since JFK-Nassau Starts tomorrow, A new city should be announced soon. Any Guesses?

I hope they open ATL back, but try a JFK-ATL. I was dumbfounded why they didn't do it last time

I wonder if the new cit(ies) to be announced wouldn't be the E190 cit(ies)? Perhaps a December/January announcement? This would give them at least 4-6 good months of booking, or is that too much?

ATL is NOT coming back.

I will place my bets on SAT for two reasons:
A. Very little SAT-NYC competition
B. B6 has expressed a decent amount of interest in SAT

Speaking of B6.. it is time for them to redo that route map.. it is getting a bit complicated... too many lines going too many places... time to pull a HP or WN and get the interactive kind..

Even if B6 wanted to come to EWR, where would they get the gates from? CO snatched up every available gate in Terminal A in order to prevent new entrants from coming in (and to provide business pax with quick access to the gates), and everywhere else is maxxed out.

Please no airline is going to announce a city 4 to 6 months out, to let the competition gobble up the market share. I would be surprised if they announced anything before March of 2005

LGA-YYZ
JFK-YUL
JFK-YVR

The Canadian cities and MHT and a few others have been held to the side for the entry of the E-190's. I do wish for MCO-LGB tho.

i think LGB-MCO would be a good addition to our route map. we actually have quite a few PAX who connect in JFK from OAK/LGB to MCO and having a one-stop/non-stop to MCO through LGB would be so much more convenient for the pax.

and in regards to the 190's new cities...just like Luv2fly said...no airline would announce a new city more than 6 months in advance. when we announced service to PHX, it was less than 3 months from the announcement to the launch flight.

i'd say for '05 just add a cpl new cities and focus MORE on connecting the dots and adding the frequencies (as we've seen already for spring w/ addt'l ONT and MSY flights from JFK and more BOS-LGB/OAK)!

I doubt that MHT will see B6 for a long time simply because of the very strong presence of WN there. WN leases 6 out of 17 gates at MHT, and all gates are currently leased by other airlines. Now, if one of the airlines serving MHT went belly-up (i.e. US DL or DH), then I could see the possibility of B6 coming in and taking the vacant gates. Then again, there is no MHT-JFK service... The only NY area service is CO to EWR and DL and US to LGA and service to JFK would offer connecting opportunities. Maybe it is a possibility in the distant future for a small presence there like a few JFK flights daily when gate space becomes available. I suppose they could share a gate with another airline, but I'm not sure of what gates are underused.

If I seem scatterbrained, you'll have to excuse me, I'm taking a break from writing a long paper and my brain is a little fried right now.

From a friend whose father is a B6 pilot...

CLT WILL be a new route city once the E-190s come full swing.

The only question is WHEN CLT will be opened by B6

Is the ISP still a roomer??
I don't think they will just start service to FLL. It's kind of against their concept to serve ISP with only one route. FLL nor ISP is a hub or focus city for them. I could see them taking over the AA gates. The only thing is that they do not have jetways. There is also a shortage of gate space- especially if they are going to load an A320!
I think if the do ISP, it will be ISP- FLL and MCO at least.
They also stated a while ago that the Embraers will replace the A320s so that they can use the A320s on other routes that need the longer range A/C.

According to JetBlue's CEO, they'll only be opening 2 new 320 stations this year before the 190's come in. My guesses are:

JFK-PDX
JFK-MIA

I said PDX b/c there is very little if any competition on the route, and JetBlue could get some excellent yields out of there. I said MIA b/c there is also not too much competition on that direct route (only one airline serves it - AA), and JetBlue has been doing very well on both JFK-FLL and LGA-FLL.

On the other hand, I really would not be surprised to see B6 starting ISP-FLL and ISP-MCO. Both routes do excellently out of JFK and I'm sure JetBlue would like to capture some traffic out on the Eastern/Suffolk County side of the island.

With that, I think B6's first E190 destination will be Richmond followed by GSO or JAX, followed by BOS-Upstate NY.

I wish for LAX....They serve ONT- but it caters more to the Inland Empire/Riverside areas. LGB is slot restricted, and people from as far as San Diego (even though B6 flies to SAN) drive to LAX just to fly domestically. The benefits of flying from LAX would be that it's closer to a larger population of people than ONT .... and gates would not be hard to find. Of course, trying to obtain many gates at once probably wont be possible, finding one or two to use isn't too hard. The terminal I work in has several periods in a day where it's absolutely silent and the gates are not occupied.

Cheers!

Norfolk, VA (ORF) or Newport News, VA (PHF), since they both serve the same metro area. There's competition from AE, FL, and WN to cities including BOS, JFK, LGA, MCO, and LAS. I know they would instantaneously become my preferred airline, as I fly home to MCO often, from PHF and ORF. I'd even take a connection thru BOS or JFK to get to Florida.
Change is: one airline, six continents!

my guess is that there will be no new cities/routes announced until at least Janruary...
The reason: They are adding many flights this winter to Florida, and they need as many planes for that as possible. I'd say that around Janruary, they'll begin planning for post-Easter and they will announce some new routes.

Now, I don't know what they will be, but here is a list of what I would like:
FLL-BDL
JFK-MIA
MCO-LGB
FLL-OAK
JFK-JAX (although, that will probably be a EMB route)
JFK-NAS-FLL (1 stop)...in competition with NK.
NEXT FLIGHT: FLL-ATL-HPN on FL

Our CEO said we'd only open 2 cities for 2004 and we opened... what? 7? I hope we'll add more transcons from LGB and OAK. My friend that works in PHX said rumor around the station is they'll announce in January to connect PHX to BOS and IAD. A nonstop BOS-LAS, SAN, and SJC would be lovely. I think that if Song is going to compete with us on every route, we should open up LGB-TPA and more non-stops to Florida. And I can only dream for YVR, YYZ, and YUL to happen anytime soon...

I think 2005 is gonna be real interesting not just for jetBlue, but for all airlines...

All the best!

Well from what I was told from a person who works for Jetblue in New York back in July, said that YYZ is on their list and would probably see them in 2005. I would assume it would be an Airbus A320-234 on that run.

BOI? I Doubt it. I somehow doubt we'll get any B6 service, but if we do it'll be an EMB. But there is No one who serves BOI-NYC, and it's in our Top 20 O&D if I remember, not to mention the connections we'd get from all of the buisness companys, especially with an LCC. Maybe BOI isn't so far off in the future  Smile

The new route will be LGB-SAD with a E190. There is no competition on the route!

I think if they start hitting the Canadian market, they will strike big:

JFK and/or LGB to YYZ
Same to YUL
Same to YVR

That they have a product which differentiates itself on those routes they should do well. Question is, do they want to?

Does B6 have any interest in bidding on the 14 gates that TZ is getting rid of at MDW?

I know that B6 has stated that it would prefer to start service into ORD, but it also needs 4 or 5 adjacent gates. US's gates might be opening, if the bankruptcy is converted to a Chapter 7, but they currently are using only 2 or 3 gates.

ISP. I think this because WN just left the old terminal to be in the new one, which means there are 3 vacant gates.

Am I the only one that thinks jetBlue moving into Islip is a profoundly bad idea? Sure, not much competition, but what competition there is, is jetBlue out of JFK! Sure I know it is a trek to JFK, but since LI is a captive audience, I mean you go west, north or south and you're in the drink, there is little motivating factor for jetBlue to serve islip - unless of course others offer more than one-stop or connecting flights. Absent that - adding jetBlue flights out of Islip will have a negative impact on their loads at JFK.

As for YYZ or YUL, since there has been a recent explosion of Canadian low fare airlines to Toronto (jetsgo, westjet, Canjet) I wonder if jetBlue still wants to jump in, they may have thought about it but I would think they are now re-thinking it. Maybe Montreal, but even that isn't likely.

Enter the Embraer 190.
Perhaps a 190 doing seasonal service to Halifax is a possibility?
Also 190s to JAX, Pensacola, Nashville, CLT, Myrtle Beach (maybe a 320 for Myrtle Beach).

320 routes I'd like to see and where I think money can be made.
Ponce, Austin, and YVR, but I also think a JFK-Calgary route can work out.

Well this has been your armchair airline CEO, thanks for tuning in.
Good night.

JFK-MIA: MIA is too close to FLL (20mi) and is a crappy airport!!! NO WAY

New Routes:
BOS-LAS
OAK-LAS
OAK-FLL

New Cities:
JFK-YYZ
LGB-HNL

Don't under-estimate their hunger to expand at BOS. I have heard that BOS is their most successful city. I would expect to see BOS-LAS anytime...

I think CLT would work, futher complicating things for USair. The only LCC competition on the route is a connection route on Indy air.

BNA has some of the lowest fares of any major US airport to many destinations with the large WN presence there. However, like charlotte, the only LCC competition to NYC proper is on Indy air. I think this would further solidify BNA as a low cost airport.

TYS is one of the most expensive airports in the mid-south. It might be an option.

Not if it's just to FLL, which is the plan. Southwest has a terrible image and very weak market position (most of WN's SFL traffic is going to SoFl, not out) in South Florida. jetBlue has the complete opposite position.

JFK-MIA: MIA is too close to FLL (20mi) and is a crappy airport!!! NO WAY

Think no way all you want. jetBlue has publicly stated that they are seriously looking into MIA-JFK. When jetBlue arrives at MIA isn't a question of if, it is a question of when. LGA's proximity to JFK didn't stop them from going to LGA too. Offer the consumer choices. jetBlue's second largest customer base is in South Florida, and offering the consumer the choice of flying out of all three South Florida airports is a good thing. Service to MIA would require little to no marketing costs and they will already have an established customer base. Believe it or not, there are many travelers who perfer MIA to FLL, myself included.

Since Philadelphia is a very union-oriented city; even if US folded, there would be some 'issues' should B6 decide to come to PHL.

B6 might have a better chance at PIT than PHL.
