Kenya Airways, one of Africa's most successful and popular airlines has finally broken Boeing's 767-400ER sales drought by ordering 3 B767-400ERs and as the same time ordering 2 B737-700s with Winglets (maybe these will be redesignated the B737-700ER?)
Kenya Airways is only the 3rd airline to order the B767-400 and is the first non-US customer. This is an important breakthrough for Boeing as the 767-400 has failed to secure any new airline customers since launch, ILFC and GECAS have actually cancelled orders.
The new 767-400 will fly alongside the 767-300s that Kenya Airways is leasing from KLM, and will fly prime Intercontinental routes to cities like London, Amsterdam and Frankfurt.
First deliveries will be in May 2004, the first 737-700 will arrive in December 2002. The 767-400 will seat CY259 and the 767-300 CY211, the 767-400 will feature personal TVs in every seat (A first for an African airline?)
The deal makes Kenya Airways the first airline to actually order the 737NG with winglets!
The 767s will have the new interior, based on that of the 777, which looks very good.
