Fokker 100

A little quieter in the cabin than DC9s. They have that sense that you feel in DC9s that the handling is really tight, sort of a "sports car" feel. I've always had rapid climb rates on them, making takeoffs fun!

Flown them quite a few times on AA. Very much like the DC-9 but quieter. Very old planes but they run fine. Suck a lot of gas though......

Very good plane, a little bit small but most of us fit in, also very quiet, only a minor detail, very hard when taxiing or on the landing, feels like when you hit a hole with your car  Sad

But it´s a good plane. Big grin
Life is what happens when you have other plans.....

I have just come back from a weekend in France (via AMS) and was lucky to fly on 3! as well as an A320-100 (been wanting to do that one) and 739 and 320.

The fokker 100 was really noisy when taking off - you could literally hear the nosewheel speeding up (was sat in seat 1A) but it had some real power accellerating and taking off. I nipped to the back and the noise from the engines are amazing - especially during climb.

One minor thing, I flew back into BHX with KLM and the flight was full - it was really hot too. Don't think the air con is all that. Other than that - nice plane!

"Very old planes but they run fine. Suck a lot of gas though......" You must be sucking on some gass too!!! The F100's come from the same generation as A320's, using many of the same avionics, and the engines are also from that time period....

Just had a trip a few weeks ago on a SG Fokker 100. Very very nice A/C. Quiet and fast. Can't speak about leg room since I was lucky 'nuff to grab an exit row Big grin.

Gosh, I loved them... I wish US was still flying them. I flew them PIT-HPN and HPN-PIT a few times... Just loved the ride. Yes, they could be as loud as DC-9s *if* you were sitting in the back, but I think the noise was dramatically lower in the rest of the cabin. I always found the seats comfortable and thought that the air was pretty fresh on them, too.

A number of years ago, I flew on the F100's older sibling, the F28. Although this model was about 25 years old, it was VERY nimble, and climb rates incredibly fast. The cabin was noisier, due to the 60's/70's era engines. Manouvering on the ground was very tight, but an F28-1000 series is only about 2/3 the length of its younger sibling.

I am sure the F100 would be a Cadillac compared to the F28 Chevy... LOL
