First NW A319 For LIT Started Today

Tue Nov 02, 2004 9:08 am

We had our first scheduled A319 service to MEM today. It was great! The only thing that sucked was we had to be there at 12:30 a.m. this morning for break-ride training!  Sleepy  Yawn . We (NW) also started our DC-9 service to MSP (this first flight to MSP in the morning was a CRJ before!). I can't believe how NW has grown from 3 MEM DC-9 flights a day (when I started in 1999) to 8 flights a day (2 DC-9s to MEM, 1 A319 to MEM, 1 DC-9 to MSP, 1 CRJ to MSP, and 3 CRJs to DTW)!

That Airbus looks good sitting at our gate! I sure hope that this becomes a permanent part of our lineup! This is the aircraft that started today..

Sounds great. LIT has seen some pretty strong growth recently. I bet LIT will get pretty busy when the Clinton Library opens.

We all think that the reason the A319 was started here was because of the Clinton Library. I guess they believe the A319 is a more "impressive" plane to bring people to LIT in.  Confused

That's good news for LIT! I remember here in Boise we got the A319 first in April of 2001, I believe. In about 1-2 years, look for the A320, and if demand is strong enough, in about 4 years look for a possible 757 from NW.

Be sure to take some pics!!!

I heard that there were was going to be a 777 there for the opening of the library, is that true. I would think some leaders from Saudi Arabia, Japan, and the U.K. would be here.

777? That would be sweet! I just bought my first digital camera (Olympus C-540) and I plan on taking A LOT of pics.

I took some of our first A319 but I haven't downloaded them yet.

probaby the reason for the growth is its to darn expensive to fly out of mem..i have to shuttle 130 miles to you in lit then fly back to memphis and then get on the flight i want to go on.. ive saved in the past 1,000 to lax,,, One of the last ones i shuttled to lit flew back to mem then on to iah,,,on the return iah to mem, i walked off the plane and got in the car...i had carry ons...
i can see for 80 miles

What is that MEM-LIT shuttle bus like?

I think LIT for MEM is getting almost like GRR is for DTW except NW has more of a presence in GRR.

There are plans to develop a regional airport in eastern Arkansas. It is just in its beginning stages. Exact location..IDK.

Blackhawk144,

I doubt NW will ever fly the 757 into BOI. NW has already flown the 320 into BOI during peak demand periods, and will continue to do so. NW flew the 320 from BOI to MSP both this summer and last summer.
The New American is arriving.

I think that one of the reasons for NW's growth in LIT is the slow, painful demise of DL. For many, many years DL was the leading airline in LIT both in passengers and flights, but they've now fallen to #2 behind WN and I suspect they'll fall further than that. As a long time DL Medallion flying out of LIT, their service into LIT has gotten worse and worse. Now, the only mainline DL service into LIT is 2 or 3 flights to ATL. The rest are RJs into CVG and DFW. I, for one, don't like the RJs and will do everything I can to avoid them. NW is a great option out of LIT with the quick trip over to MEM. I had never flown on NW until about a year ago, but since I've taken a few trips, including one to Asia. I look forward to more NW flying and if DL keeps on slipping, I may change over to NW entirely.

Nwcoflyer,

A) If you look in my message, I never once said BOI had/has/will have 757s

B) Never say never. Eventually we will see 757 sized aircraft from NW, whether in 2008, or 2015.

C) As far as rate of growth in traffic and deman BOI has gone through in the past 10 years, I wouldn't be surprised to see a 757-200 by at least 2006 or 2007.

But let's not get off-topic
